chgolatin2,
I'm shocked! I have never known them to overcharge for anything. I have had them work on my car on 3 separate occasions and it was always pretty reasonable and 40% - 60% of what a dealer would charge. I have limited knowledge when it comes to the work involved with Porsche exhausts so I don't know if their quotes are crazy or not (although they certainly sound like it!) Maybe try an exhuast specialist? Good luck! |
Any good Porsche techs and or shops in West Palm Beach, FLorida?
|
Any good and reliable mechanic in San Jose, CA? I need to have the 60K service done which includes the belt replacement. Dealer quoted me around $ 1,500.00. Was hoping to find an outside mechanic to save some money for my top and tires.

i just removed Performance Imports from my Atlanta list. they were sued for fruad and lost. they were ripping customers off left and right. not installing parts that were paid for, installing unnecessary new parts & selling the good used ones, etc.

Any help for a Detroit boy?

Phoenix and San Antonio
In Phoenix, Beck's is good. He's on Cave Creek North of Dunlap. In San Antonio European Car Parts hasn't treated me wrong and they seem to know what they are doing. Owner seems to be an honest guy.

I just had my trans (tip) replaced and some other things done by a shop in Laguna Hills called Vision Motorsports, they were very upfront with q and a's and resonable considering the job and other shop I checked into. They mostly built race cars but also service drivers. Check out there website. I would go back.

Does anyone think this post should be re-done?
I think it would be more useful if it only listed shops that people HERE have ACTUALLY USED. Use the phone book for a list of shops... use this forum for actual reviews... meaningful data! Am I the only one that thinks as such? |
Mind Over Motorsports in San Diego. This is a terrific shop that has serviced my car before i purchased it from a pca member. I'm usually very specific when it comes to my car and couldn't be happier
|
Marque Motors in Portland, Oregon (Johns Landing). P cars only. Kurt there is terrific and all his mechanics are top flight too. They cared for my 911's and are quick, fairly priced, and very meticulous--without any BS. They do a lot of race prep and restorations as well as road car maintenance. Can't speak too highly of them.

If its not too late try: http://www.realmeangarage.com/ They are in sunnyvale so not too far. I have heard nothing but good things about them and they run tech sessions about the boxster so they know what they are doing. AVOID AVOID AVOID C.T. Automotive in Campbell. They changed owners are the shop owner and staff now are pretty clueless charge $110.00 and hour and often don't even know how to do very basic things. Fremont Porsche (forgot their official name) will do service for $1000 if you tell them that you are a Babblers member and went to the CarCare day (http://www.babblers.org/) Sign up over there to check out some great reviews on local shops too. |

Thank Olouie!!! BTW, do you have any prior experience with Realmeangarage? |
Yes, I went to RMG them after going to CT Automotive so many times my head hurt. They sorted out a problem in 10 minutes that CT could not solve after a bunch of 1-2 days of leaving my car with them.
Give the owner, Bob Grigsby a call at 408-738-2060. He is very nice. Their prices are quite reasonable and flexible. Also their hours are great. 7am to 5pm I think. (CT Claims 8 to 5, but I could never get a hold of them before 9 ish or after 4) http://www.realmeangarage.com/shop/techsessions.html Some great info on the tech sessions if you are interested. Also a bit farther north in Mountain View is Heyer Performance. I like that shop and the owner. They do good work, but last time charged me $270 for an oil change. Was a bit shocked by that since the dealer only want $100 on special so I got a good lesson to always ask for prices before assuming anything. |
I went to IMA Motorsports in norther VA (near Don Loring Metro) to get lot of work done after getting some recommendation from local PCA group. Chris at IMA has lot of experience and training straight from Porsche and was great to deal with. He described what the problem was in detail with history and showed me what was going on when the car was on the lift. They also handled warranty issues and my car is now running smooth. You can also check out lot of race P-cars being worked in that garage.
You can ask for Chris at 703-849-9590. |
New York and SF Bay Area
In New York, I have been using Mark Tashijan's shop, and they seem pretty reasonable and very knowledgeable:
Formula Motorsports http://formulamotorsports.com/ 3216 37th Ave Long Island City, NY 11101 (718) 482-0515 When I lived in Palo Alto, I always thought Tony Heyer was great: Heyer Performance http://www.heyerperformance.com/ 2362 Old Middlefield Way Mountain View, CA 94043 |

When I asked them if I just wanted them to do the oil change (I can do the checks myself), I was told "same charge". They may do quality work, but I don't know if its worth _that_ much! |
