My buddy has a track prep'd 993 and has been going to them for years. They have an excellent reputation in IL. They charge about 2/3 the labor rate of the dealers & parts are comparable. Where you really save money is time - they don't drag out the billable hours like dealers often will. Here are 3 examples of service I had:

30K Service - Dealer quoted $1349. Eurosport did it for $520! (seriously)
Inner & outer CV Boots - Dealer quoted $1400. Eurosport did it for $505.
F&R Brake pads - Dealer wanted $1200. Eurosport did it for $478.

Also, they cleared a CEL for me and when I offered to pay for 1 hour labor, they said don't worry about it. They work on all Porsche's - 924, 914, 944, 968, 964, 993, 986, 997, etc. They understand that not everybody has a GT3 RS and work to accomodate everybody.

Independent Mechanics in OC, CA?

It's time for a brake job on my '02 Boxster. Any recommendations on independent mechanics in Orange County (preferably Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Tustin, Irvine, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo)? The local dealership wants $1700 (complete job on both axles) and I'm hoping I don't have to spend that much! Thanks in advance for your help.

Any places to avoid?....

I am guessing Newport are the big boys in town, but how is their service dept?

The Newport Beach dealership is fine, but predictably expensive.

In Orange County, you may want to consider Hergesheimer in Lake Forest:

Look under Company and then Contacts for the location.

Anyone knows a good mechanic around San Mateo, CA? Also, what is the going rate for a prosche mechanic? I checked the local dealership they are charging $150 an hour.

chgolatin2 04-30-2007 07:35 PM

I dont know how they quoted you those prices but I went today to pay them a visit and inquire about them installing my Evo intake and headers. They stated that they "HAVE TO" drop the engine to install the intake (6 to 8 hrs) and 2 to 3 hours on the headers. Personally, I dont think that they were that helpful especially how easy they informed me that they "HAVE TO" drop the engine to install a simple intake i informed them that they were the only Porsche repair place that has made that statement. Every other place states 2 to 3 hours to do the intake them 6 to 8 hours

Seattle/Everett Mechanic?

Anyone know a good independent mechanic in the Seattle/Everett area? (I live near Lynnwood, halfway between Seattle & Everett)

I just bought a 2000 Boxster S (my first Porsche) with 16,000 miles on it. Although it drives and sounds great and I have no indication of any problems, I did have built into the contract a provision for a full refund if there are any major mechanical defects. I think I'd probably be smart to get it checked out by a good Porsche-trained mechanic. I gather a dealer may not be my best bet. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The owner Seth is a great guy, very honest and has worked on my cars for the last 15 years.

^I remember this shop from when I had my Miata.

Just put in a call asking for prices for routine maintenance.
Oil Change, Spark plugs, drive belt, brake flush, alignment.

These jobs are minor but I want records to reflect that this work was done come resale. But I may end up doing it myself because the only shop open on Saturday is the local stealership. Getting to these places during the week is just not feasible. Thes shops leave allot of money on table by being closed on weekends.

Same question, different location. Suggestions for the Akron, OH area? (Although I could certainly make it down to the Canton address as suggested by "OhioBoxster." It's about a 15 to 30 minute drive, depending on how lucky I'm feeling that day.)
