my friends father bought a 996....BUT

the 1st night that it spent outside(project VW beatle inside), locked....woke up and freaking litronics were missing. fenders are only bent a little where the top of the headlight goes. how is this possible? he wouldnt let us take pics...so tempting to show, but yea....wtf? dont you need to unscrew the headlight from the inside to get it out? hood was closed
damn people suck

If your determined enough I bet you could break the plastic loop that the hook locks into on the headlight via prying with a screwdriver to the top of the fender. First night outside though??? Come on what is this world coming to? I would tell him to check Craigslist,eBay, & local newspaper for them.

this is why I say never leave your car parked with the top down. If the shady dudes can be this stealthy with the windows up just imagine how easy it is with an open cockpit.
I think there is a way of disabling the alarm with a computer device and opening the hood without having to get into the cockpit. Once the alarm is neutralized opening the doors isn't super complicated.
I can remove those headlight in under five minutes (both sides). I'm sure a guy who has hit up many Pcars for their headlights can do it even faster. There was a rash of headlight thefts in southern california and it inspired some not-so-profesional theives to give it a shot. They ended up causing thousands of dollars of damage to the wiring by improperly disconnecting the harnessess.

Never underestimate humans, desperate enough and we as a race can do just about anything. Like escape from alcatraz, steal the headlights off of a car, or even try to break into a minimart by going through the roof. I bet theres someone who could steal the seats out of your car in daylight.

They just pry right out, the plastic clips snap off the bottom and they're gone. You need to watch out when shopping for lits that they are intact and the clip is in place, if it isn't it's almost a certainty that they are stolen.

I wondered about having the VIN etched in to them maybe or putting stickers on saying "security etched" or "security tagged" or something.

It actually doesn't take much to take these lights.

All you have to do really is pull up on the front of the headlights and they are gone. I demonstrated this at one of the get togethers with my headlights.

I once had an idiot put his cigarette out on my headlight. I was pissed!

If you don't clip them in right then the first time you touch the brakes they come out all by themselves... according to one of the admins at PPBB *lol*

that sux, u dish out all this money for a car and now youre scared to even keep it on the street. if they stole his lights once what are the chances that they will do it again? he better keep it in the garage all the time now, but that blows tho.

btw, wouldnt the alarm come on if you were to pull on them that had from the bottom?
