rear drive axles replacements ..

hello Guys,

So, I'm getting back to my 01 Boxster 986 suspension components replacement
fronts and rear shocks, lower controls arms, sway links, rear drive axles (boots replacements and regreasing ball bearings where possible) fuel filter, air oil separator

ISSUES here:
after replacing boots on BOTH ends and removing inner ball bearings, carrier or hubs sorry DO NOT KNOW proper names , repacking new grease NOW

.. rear axles inner CV joint ARE rigid , NOT turning or swiveling at ALL
is that normal ?- where did I go wrong when reassembling them ?

I can't remenber how they felt when I removed them !!

any input appreciated ..

Jaimster, No, that is not normal... (sorry)
Perhaps be better to disassemble the inner CV's and reassemble them again as they should move in all directions as the outer ones.

I think if they’re a little hyperextended or put together weird they will bind but if you bang them around a bit they will go back to normal.
Used to happen to me sometimes

thank you Guys ,

I'm going to try banging them around a bit maybe they will loosen up ! if that doesn't work I will have to take them apart again .
another question :

are the end components on both inner axles interchangeable ?

When reassembling the CV joint if the center part goes in the wrong way it will bind up. There is a video somewhere on youtube that shows the right orientation and the wrong one. This might be the video, apologies if I have found the wrong one.

So I have disassembled and assembled them back - They are much FREE turning , rotating much better -

observations : the driver side which seems to be a bit longer and also moves much MORE FREER than the driver side is that NORMAl ?

and also if I were to buy and replace (the cage and race ) has anybody done that before and have an online vendor where I could order those ?
my Thinking : I have it taken apart might NOT a bad idea to rebuild that end of the CV's

your THOUGHTS ? like BOBO from HOWARD says ..lol

found them at CARID - think I'm going to order them from there 75.00 each

Jaimster, IMHO you should use OEM CV joints and axles, these are more expensive for a reason, otherwise you will be removing them and start all over again..
