I'm not positive, but I think I read somewhere that if you hit your remote twice quickly it turns off the motion detector inside the car... so if you want to lock in a passenger or a pet for a quick run into the store, they won't set off the alarm with the top up.

You are correct, my '99 manual states the following: "If a person or animal remains in the car while it is locked, the infrared passenger compartment monitoring system must be switched off.
To do this, quickly lock car twice using either the key or remote control.

does the manual say anything how to make the horn come on when the car is locked?

Hi,

This is not an option. The Horn is used to remind you that some door, or compartment lid is not closed. It cannot be used to verify Locking - that is done with the Tail Lamps, Turn Indicators (and if you've done the Euro sidemarker hack, the side marker lights as well). Hope this helps...

Jim's technically right, as usual. However, there is a way to make it work. There is a wire leading to your center console that if unplugged, will tell the system you've left the oddments tray (center console) open and it will cause the horn to beep.

Mine beeps when I lock the car because I had an aftermarket stereo installed and the installer didn't know to ground out a wire from the old harness and it's the same message to the system as what I described above.

I love this "feature" on my car. Before I had it, I never knew if I was locking or unlocking my car with a single button remote... and I don't have to look at the car to see if the tail lamps blinked once or twice or whatever it is.

Hi,

Yep, that would do it, disconnect the Brown Wire coming off the Oddments Tray Switch. But, you will lose the reminder function that a door, or latch, is open. Comes down to your preference...
