Purpose of this part...

The Throttle Valve Tube Pipe. It is connected to the intake tube. Part # 99611024200

It's a tube to nowhere. I noticed this when I had out my throttle body and connecting tubes to the plenums.

1. What purpose does it serve?

2. What would result in its absence?

Thank you.

No responses. Have I stumped the board?

Since you are dying to get response... I think the part is for flow noise/ resonance/ pulsation management, very common feature with other cars too.

With above said, I do not recall that my 1997 has one, maybe only for Tiptronic cars? Mine has the helmholtz chamber right by the throttle body, basically for the same purpose.

If you do not understand it, just trust what Porsche did and leave it alone.

The reading I did pointed to it being exclusive on the Tip... which is what I have. I'll buy the flow noise, etc. explanation as that seems to be the purpose of the intake tube muffler as well.

Yeah... I'll trust what Porsche did and leave it alone. I believe the intake muffler and that tube were added to comply with European noise mandates. Period.

I find it odd that it is resident only upon the tips...

Next?

I thought the intake snorkel was for Euroan noise regulation, not the chamber that enhances the flow.

Throttle won't close and open at each gear shift as manual, especially our early models with cable throttle, so intake flow dynamic and tuning can be unique for each tranny.

I was thinking the same too, thus found this old thread. I considered removing it as well, just wasn’t sure on what to use to plug the hole. If I had installed an after market intake, it would be removed, so likely just for sound muffling. Doubt there would be any performance gain, and likely a loss of mpg due to making the engine purr more often!
