Since you are dying to get response... I think the part is for flow noise/ resonance/ pulsation management, very common feature with other cars too.

With above said, I do not recall that my 1997 has one, maybe only for Tiptronic cars? Mine has the helmholtz chamber right by the throttle body, basically for the same purpose.

If you do not understand it, just trust what Porsche did and leave it alone.
