Oil filter quick question

Guys,

Finally got my kids newly aquired 2001 Boxster S back from the dealership after they cleared the Engine lights. Now I want to change all the liquids and filters starting with the engine oil. Pulled the engine filter and the existing is not an exact match to the new one I got. Diameter is good but as the picture shows the plastic flanges top and bottom are not there on the new filter. Is that a problem or did they just change the design?

Actually, that is a better aftermarket filter, most likely a Wix/NAPA Gold filter, which has a finer filter media, and encapsulated end caps to prevent the problems often encountered with the paper end cap filters.

The two filters are interchangeable. You can use either.

The WIX is a good filter. However I prefer the German Hengst oil filter. Seems it has more filtering area than the WIX. and Less money too.
