What's the story behind your forum name?

1 Attachment(s)
I've been a member here for 4.5 years and I've always been curious about some of your forum names and if there's a story behind them or a meaning. My forum name story isn't that great but I'm sure some of you have always wondered. Way back in 2007 i was into Chevy G-body's at the time. I had an Elcamino, a wagon, and a 2 door coupe(malibu). The 2 door was my main toy and I had a lot of modifications done to it. It was pro-touring to the max. It had a ZZ4 350, 700R4, 8.5 axle, tubular front suspension, aftermarket brakes and completely stripped interior. It was a very fast car and could handle as good as any full frame car could. People would always ask if it was a nova and that's how I came up with itsnotanova. GBodyforum.com was the first forum I joined and that name made since for that forum. I use that name now for every forum I join because it's never already used and its easier for me to remember. Now your turn. What's your story? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1515416590.jpg

fridsten 01-08-2018 05:23 AM

Well... This might be boring, but it's my last name.
I'm Swedish, and Fridsten is indeed a Swedish name, but there's only around 40 of us (31 adults, as far as I know), so it's pretty rare.

paulofto 01-08-2018 05:53 AM

My name means Paul Of Toronto. Although I have lived in Winnipeg the past 4 years I did live in the Toronto area for 28. I've used this handle for a long time.

Anker 01-08-2018 05:59 AM

Anker is an uncommon Danish first name. I was born in South Africa and considered my naming to be cruel and unusual punishment instigated by my parents. Didn't get any better when we move to Denmark because the spelling is exactly the same as the spelling of a boat anchor in Danish. It wasn't until I became an adult that I actually got to like my first name.

I refuse to tell anybody what my nickname was in South Africa. :-)

Blackcloud 01-08-2018 06:09 AM

I used to manage Operations Control for a cargo/passenger airline. They called me black cloud because it seemed whenever I showed up for work bad things started to happen...weather..mechanical issues..air tunbacks..block turn backs... volcanic eruptions you name it!

cas951 01-08-2018 06:14 AM

While I was in the military everyone always called me Cas. No matter where I was stationed they all called me Cas. Maybe my last name is long so they all gave me that nickname and it stuck on me. My dream car was a Porsche 944 turbo. So when I first signed up for my first email account through AOL decades ago i came up with cas951. That’s been my username ever since.

rfuerst911sc 01-08-2018 06:59 AM

Mine is partially my name and 911SC for when I owned my SC . That's the forum name when I first joined Pelican and have used it ever since . The SC is long gone replaced by the Boxster but the name lives on :D

mikefocke 01-08-2018 07:15 AM

A contraction of my real names to remind me that I'm not hiding behind anonymity so I should be polite on the forums. Have used it back through BBS days in the '80s.

kk2002s 01-08-2018 07:26 AM

My initials and my ride. I gotta keep it simple. When I forget my name or my ride, then I'm S!%& out of luck

Fortunately I'll never forget my password, the Inter web always spells it out "password"

steved0x 01-08-2018 07:47 AM

Mine is steve for my first name and d for my last name. But back in the day I had to create a work account for eBay and steved was already taken, and every other good combination of my name was taken. So I picked steved with some hexidecimal characters after it. I can't remember what they stood for (maybe my phone number at the time with ended in 7878) but the main benefit was that that name was available everywhere. I eventually shortened it to steved0x, which also is never taken anywhere :)

Now I write technical documentation, and so people think it means steve docs (with d0x for docs), which works out :)

morgal48 01-08-2018 07:58 AM

Mine is a contraction. The business I started in the mid 80s was the morgan allen company, both of my children's middle names. I was born in 1948.

The Radium King 01-08-2018 08:02 AM

The yellowcake uranium used to bomb japan during wwii was mined just north of me. it was taken by tug and barge south to a railhead for refining in the states. the only obstacle to the barging was the big set of rapids on the river adjacent to where i live. so, they used to portage around the rapids and through my town. one of the tugs - the radium king - is now in the local museum. it made for a great band name back in the day, and has been my online handle ever since.

RedTele58 01-08-2018 08:50 AM

Redtele58

I play a red Fender Telecaster. Born in 1958.

These histories are very interesting, I always thought (and maybe you are?) you were a scientist or nuclear physicist based on your user name.

since95 01-08-2018 09:17 AM

only a 3 month gap in the summer of 2016 between trading my 993 and purchasing a 944 to build for my daughter did I not have at least one Porsche in the garage... you guessed it, Since95

A8ked 01-08-2018 09:37 AM

Mine is also a contraction, when I first joined a forum I was driving an Audi A8 and added my initals to make the name. The A8 has since been replaced by an S8 and joined by a couple of Porsches a 964 and 986. It is just simpler to just keep using the same forum name with different passwords. As it is I can not always remember my own name...let alone passwords!!!

hah - i have a degree in engineering physics w a specialty in mechanical/nuclear engineering. makes for a cool piece of paper hanging on my wall while i work at a job that has nothing to do with what i went to school for (unless you consider managing people as similar to complicated, unstable, potentially toxic projects).

PaulE 01-08-2018 10:20 AM

Lack of imagination, first name and last initial, and some friends call me Paulie. On the old Porsche Pete's Boxster Board I was PaulieWalnuts just for fun, but I think that name was already taken by the time I found this place.

Troy.Boxster 01-08-2018 10:21 AM

Mine is very boring - just my first name and my car. Although now that I think about it, perhaps I should have used Troy.Boxster.S to be more precise. Or not... I think I like it better as is.

NewArt 01-08-2018 10:54 AM

Well, my degrees are in fine arts. My name is Newman. Been using NewArt for over 40 years in art projects and film-making. Funnily enough, my art and film website is NewArt.ca, not to be confused with NewArt.com which is a penis enlargement and related paraphernalia site!

My first day at work one time I accidentally typed in mictosoft dot com (or some similar spelling) and all sorts of adult "stuff" came up, close 1 browser window and 3 more open up etc... I was very discouraged and thought I was going to be in big trouble but it ended up being OK.

At least you probably get some free traffic to your site by folks that mistype the "other" NewArt URL :)

The sail number on my Thistle and part of my name Gary Johnson

tommy583 01-08-2018 12:18 PM

Mine is my first name followed by the c.c.'s of my first new snowmobile, Ski-Doo MXZ 583. The sled is long gone but I use tommy583 on a few different forums, easy too remember :) On a side note I've owed 3 new snowmobiles, but never a new car.

husker boxster 01-08-2018 12:49 PM

Pretty boring - I found the sight, probably had a burning question about my 01S, and wasn't a member of other sites, so I had to come up with a name. Didn't spend a lot of time thinking up something catchy. But I use this name on other sites (P-9, Quattroworld, SuperBeetles, etc) so people who cross pollenate will know who I am.

Porsche9 01-08-2018 12:57 PM

Mine wasn't very creative but all the porsches I've had over the years start with a 996, 986, 944, 911, 964)

my15window 01-08-2018 01:31 PM

Mine is for my 1961 VW 15 window microbus

Oldcarguy 01-08-2018 01:57 PM

Oldcarguy

I picked “Oldcarguy” because, well, I’m an old car guy :)

root_werks 01-08-2018 02:11 PM

root_werks was a long time ago, the name of my part-time Porsche repair shop.

L1ttleBastard 01-08-2018 02:28 PM

It’s homage to a nickname I shared with James Dean...”Little Bastard”

When your father is a cruel miserable person and refers to you as “that little bastard” the best middle finger to the hate is to own it

356Guy 01-08-2018 03:14 PM

Not too hard to guess.....I drive a 356 in the summer.

Van914 01-08-2018 03:19 PM

Van914
As I have owned 5 since 1984. Started with Tim's 914 Fan Page and I've kept it,

BirdDog 01-08-2018 03:21 PM

Mine goes back to a job I had in the defense industry... as you know, you don't pick your call sign, it's given to you... Well, there was fantastically attractive girl at work who liked me (the feeling was mutual) and she would often come over to where I worked and chat with me. Whenever my boss came by and saw this he would yell "BIRRRRDDDDD DOGGGGG !!!" which initially drove me bat-sheet crazy. I finally decided to embrace it (to steal his thunder) and it's stuck ever since...

911monty 01-08-2018 04:08 PM

I went to a small AG high school where 56 Chevys and muscle cars were the pinnacle. Friends thought it hilarious I wanted a 911. Roughly 6 months after graduation I was merging onto the 101 from Mulholland dr. wondering where the accident was, looked down to see I was doing 90. Girlfriend chasing in TR 6 was not amused. I was hooked. Only type I've owned (6) until the water pumping 986.

BYprodriver 01-08-2018 04:18 PM

I worked as a test driver for a automotive press fleet management company, these are the vehicles car manufacturers deliver to Automotive magazines etc. (This is when I fell in love with Porsche) A management change led me to quit this job & I decieded I wanted to be a Precision/Stunt Driver, so i took several driver training courses & printed some business cards with my new email address of my initials+prodriver. I soon realized all the precision drivers lived & worked north of Los Angeles & I didn't want a 4 hr commute. So I bought my own Porsche Boxsters & work for a different press fleet company. (The original company went bankrupt)

Cool. I also have a degree in nuclear engineering. Started my career working for General Atomics.

I wish I had a more interesting story...

Tom H. Stone = thstone

soxfan1966 01-08-2018 05:21 PM

I'm a huge Red Sox Fan, born in 1966.

rexcramer 01-08-2018 05:48 PM

Nickname + Last name.

78F350 01-08-2018 06:28 PM

1978 Ford F350. It was my vehicle when I first looked up info on an automotive forum. Before that, I used Chilton and Haynes manuals. I found it easy to remember and seldom taken and just stuck with it across the web.

Steelepuls 01-08-2018 06:56 PM

Steel Pulse is the name of one of my favorite reggae band. When I was signing up in 1994 for my very first AOL email address I connected the name together and cut out a letter or two since Steel Pulse was already taken. I still use the email address. Lol.
