04 Anniversary Edition Sport Suspension

With the onset of winter, the car will now live on jack stands for a month or so while I complete my 987 airbox/997 TB/Tee installation and upgrade my suspension. The airbox/TB install is almost complete with just plumbing delivery holding me up.

For the suspension upgrade, I was able to source the complete sport suspension package from a California based 04 550 with 35k miles. Parts look to be in great shape.

Upon receiving the parts, I measured the bars and came up with 24.5mm for the front and 20mm for the rear. Also, the rear bar has a sticker on it with a part number 98633370118. Based on the information out about the 986 S m030 bars, 24mm for the fronts and 19.8 for the rear, these bars seem to be a bit larger than the normal 986 S m030 bars.

Also, I can't find the rear bar part number in any Porsche catalog or dealer part site. It looks like the 550 sport suspension bars are even stiffer than the normal 986 S m030 bars. Is this correct and Porsche upgraded the 550 suspension above the normal m030 or am I missing something?

M030 for 986 S is 24mm front and 19mm rear:

Drilling an extra hole in a sway bar end to give a softer setting

Steve, then it seems Porsche put one off bars in the 550 edition that are a bit stiffer.

The two dealerships I have called can't tell me anything about it, especially that rear bar part number.

That screenshot was of the rear bar? 986.333.701.18?

986.333.701.21 is the rear M030 986 S bar, maybe it is a revision of the older 18 bar (which I couldn't find any mention of either...)

I own a 550 SE....

...I will go out there and measure mine tomorrow.

I have a new, in the box, ROW 030 kit in my garage and the sways in that kit are 24/19.

Garage
Is it from a tiptronic car? The tip had stiffer rear springs but I used a tip kit on my old manual. Just junked my leggy manual M030 springs and dampers for Koni FSD /H&R.

10/10ths - That will be good to see what you come up with.

Steve- Yes the .18 part number is from the sticker on the rear bar. Also, in reviewing the PET catalog, in 04 it looks like Porsche made additional distinction between the S m030 bar and the S 6MT was built with the thicker base m030 bar. At least that is how I read the PET. Am I not reading this right?

I can't read the image on my phone, maybe the 550 did get something special?

Ok....

....my six-speed manual 2004 Boxster S "50 Years of 550 Spyder" edition Boxster 986 has 24/19 mm sway bars EXACTLY the same diameter as the sway bars in my ROW M030 kit I have sitting here. The sway bars are the same for USA & ROW M030 kits.

Hmmm....

I wonder what I have then, especially with the 986.333.701.18 bar number. Guess it will remain an unsolved mystery.

The 24.5mm front and 20mm rear poly bushings I bought fit perfectly though.
