You can certainly DIY. I have replaced the boots on 2 cars, one a tip and the other a 6 speed. The parts are cheap, it's mostly a labour intensive job. Be prepared to get dirty and make sure you have everything that you need before starting. You don't need to remove the complete axle, just the inner flange. However, if you do decide to remove the axles, it will be easier to work on.

Hmmm. What do I need in terms of tools?

socket set with extension bars. Allen or Torx socket for flange bolts, end nipper pliers or special clamp tool for the boot clamps. A c-clip pliers. Torque wrench.

ho. and you will need to buy a new nut as well.
