Questions on OBC hack by rocker switch
Hi guys,
As i'm about to do the OBC hack on my MY03 with one rocker switch I have read as many available guides and posts and I must admit that got a bit confused by some details, which I'm confident you guys know in your sleep.
My goal is to do the hack with only 1 rocker switch and thereby being able to control two of the pins. I dont care about the speed gong, but would like to be able to scroll through the different functions and sometimes maybe reset the "average values".
This matrix can be found on Pelicanparts.com:
Boxster 1997-2000
Connector Pin #2 Gauge Cluster Pin #20 Select Mode Down
Connector Pin #3 Gauge Cluster Pin #21 Speed Alert/Gong
Connector Pin #4 Gauge Cluster Pin #22 Select Mode Forwards
Connector Pin #5 Gauge Cluster Pin #25 Select Mode Backwards
Boxster 2001-2004
Connector Pin #2 Gauge Cluster Pin #23 Select Mode Down
Connector Pin #3 Gauge Cluster Pin #22 Speed Alert/Gong
Connector Pin #4 Gauge Cluster Pin #21 Select Mode Forwards
Connector Pin #5 Gauge Cluster Pin #24 Select Mode Backwards
Question 1: Is "Select Mode Down" the same function that in other guides is described as "Mode Up" - and that it's only a matter of viewpoint if it is scrolling up or down? I mean, could it just be called "Mode Next"?
Question 2: If the above button scrolls through the different functions of the OBC, what does forward/backward do?
Question 3: Which one would act as "reset" for the average value functions?
TLDR version: If i can connect to only two pins, which ones out of #21, #22, #23 and 24 should i choose to be able to scroll and reset?
Thanks a lot in advance!

From the original instructions on yosief's site:
"Connect the Mode Up wire by putting a Molex connecter in Slot 22 (2001-) or Slot 21 (1997-2000). Connect the Reset wire by putting a Molex connecter in Slot 24 (2001-) or Slot 25 (1997-
2000)."
These are the two I used, and one side of the rocker scrolls through the different options, and the other side acts as the "reset" when held down.

Molex pins
They are not the correct pins....can be made to fit...but requires force. I can make you a harness with the correct pins

Here's the full part's list to build a wiring harness, shouldn't cost more than $20 to build excluding the rocker switch, if you order the wire from VW. I never had any issue using the VW wire, I think the original description just characterized the connectors as "molex" ones for lack of a better description.
1 VW Wire (#000979010)
6ft. 20-22 Gauge wire
3 Female Quick Disconnects
1 Spade Terminal
2 Butt Connectors
1 Footwell Rocker Switch (#996.613.980.00)

Thanks for you answers guys!
Please excuse me, but to bring full transparency on my stupidity: i still don't really get it.
1. Is the matrix at Pelican incorrect?
2. Is the pin #22 that Pelican calls Speed Gong actually Reset, or does it represent both those functions depending on where you are in the menu tree?
3. What does Backwards/Forwards do in comparison to Up (or Down) in navigating the menu tree?
Regards

So, i went with trial and error.
Pin 22 works as navigating through the different OBC functions.
Pin 24 works as reset
This small DIY was a real pleasure to fiddle with and with a very nice and useful result.
I would recommend everyone to do this

Obc
To utilize the OBC ( On Board Computer) which is in our cars even if not ordered with that option. It must be enabled in software first and then enabled with hardware. Gas consumption, outside temp etc.

OBC Hack Projects
Hello - if you're going to do this project, be sure to purchase the OBC wire harness from pdwight. It's perfect, affordable and will save you a lot of work fabricating one as the hack instructions will tell you to do. In addition, if do not have cruise control, pdwight has a harness for this too and you might as well do both at the same time. These projects are detailed in Pelicans website - 101 Project Book, projects 91 & 92. I just did both projects this past weekend. The biggest asset I had was pdwight's excellent harnesses. Good luck.

I want to second this. Just installed the OBC using the wire harness from Dwight. Very happy with it. Looks highly professional and comes with color instructions that are very clear. Thank you Dwight!

I raise my glass to pdwight and recommend you all to buy a pre-fiddled wire harness from him if you want a nice looking and more straightforward installation.
I would also like to comment though that it is still a 1-2 hour DIY project if you have the tools and some minor experience in crimping cables etc. To me it's part of the fun
But anyway, DO IT DO IT

Yes of course - Dwight can sell you a great harness for your 2002. I have an 02 base, and his harnesses worked beautifully - for both my OBC and Cruise Control hacks.
