You're welcome. I expect a full mock-up of a better design in the morning.

Perhaps something where the magnet/phone could be positioned not to block any controls, and as little of the vents as possible. Maybe something like this:

Nope, doesn't work (for me anyway). Just like you've setup in yours is perfection imo. Small magnet, not invading, out of the way, etc... love the idea

Or just get this:

Slots into the CD bay. That's what I'll be getting soon - seen it in the skin on a few other Boxsters and the positioning is perfect.

You don't need one, you already have a carphone.

I wish my car wasn't in storage as there is no way I can describe this without pics...
probably the most useless post of 2017 so far

I made a small metal Z shaped/shelf-like bracket out of sheet metal that slides in between the upper and lower console (the space below the radio) and I can set my phone on it horizontally. Perfect for using my phone's nav.

When I don't need it, I put it in the center console compartment. I'll try to snap a pic this weekend if I can get to the car.

I recently installed this mount from ProClip. It was $55 for the mount and cradle on sale. That is an iPhone 7+ in the picture, and it does not interfere with any of the controls, or shifting, and I really like the location. It is easy to see and use, but not in my face or drawing too much attention to itself.

I bought a spare trim piece to clip it onto, because it clams on very tightly to the leatherette side console trim. If I where to do it again I might use a generic RAM mount and bolt it directly into a spare leatherette side trim piece instead of using the clip on mount.

Storage bin with speaker off. That removes all temptation to do anything but drive. I have a separate windshield-mount Garmin for navigation when I need it.

Good for you putting phone away. Hopefully you're prudent placing the GPS...

Too many times I see idiot drivers w/ GPS planted smack dab in middle of their field of vision... cord loosely draped down to boot. So not only now is vision blocked but cords can also easily get tangled in steering wheel or control stocks.

Sometimes people are their own punishment...

I stole this from my 944, it has detachable mounts for gps or phones. It is a bar of aluminum so you can bend it to any posistion you need.

It comes with hardware to attack to the seat mounting frame.

Thinking of getting a window mount so I can use it as a track recorder.

I have this....

Car or Truck Seat Rail Bolt or Floor Mount with 22" Gooseneck: Arkon.com

And I LOVE it!

It allows you to place the phone exactly where you want it, it's not in the way, and it will hold any size phone.

I can easily see my moving map display, calls, music, etc.

Easy to install, functions beautifully.

You're welcome.

Here is another alternative. Not for a phone but can be modified to work. I was looking for a way to mount my Bluetooth Transmitter. I could have used the power outlet/cigarette lighter but it was battery powered and it wasn't very secure. I wanted an ignition power so I wouldn't have to remove the transmitter with the car not running.

I purchased a power outlet and wired it to the phone connector which is ignition powered. I was debating whether to mount the power outlet in the side panel but that involved drilling. I was looking for a less intrusive method being once drilled, the only reversal is purchasing the side panel. I happened to find this lying around the house. It is a bookend bracket.

This bracket just happened to fit/slide in between the upper console and dash. It was sturdy and secure and removable.

I just bent the bracket to fit and zipped tied the power outlet to the bracket. Kinda hacked but works and looks good from the front.

Hopefully these are right-side up. I started with a door latch protector I bought from Home Depot. I cut one end down, bent it and painted it black. I set my phone on it when I want to use the navigation function. Other than that is sits in the center console when not in use.

It actually just blends in when the phone is one it (usually laying horizontally)

I bought the mount from rennline. Mounts on the right side of the console, a little pricey for what it is, but works awsome keeps phone out of window. I cant use a window mount here because it is illegal anyway.

I bought the Rennline as well but hated the way it fit and that the shifter blocked most of the GPS when in fifth gear. So I moved it.
