Just curious. How often do you guys check for codes? Obviously there are codes that won't trip a warning light but do you check them as part of preventive maintenance, only when you get a warning light, just for giggles or what? What do you consider the "best practice" as far as investigating a code; always fix, ignor if not deemed serious, cross fingers...what? Thanks......

I have an Automatic installed, it alerts me in my phone when codes pop up. Haven't seen any yet.

I prefer to fix codes ASAP. Of course, I lived with my SAI codes for years, just because it doesn't affect the engine. I finally fixed that recently.

If the CEL isn't on and the car is running fine, no need to check. If I feel/hear/smell something odd, I'll hook up the Durametric and see what's going on.

Only when a CEL rears its ugly head. Otherwise, I never check for codes.

I also only check if I get a CEL or if I have to go soon for an inspection to see if I have all the codes in ready stage.

I have a durametric now but started with one of the ebay asian knock offs that worked very well for the basics. It reads and resets all codes. It didn't want to work with the airbag system at all. But for the engine, perfect. DO NOT try to update the software and firm ware. It will make it all non functional.
