Hard Top for

Porsche Boxster (97-04) Guards red Hardtop for sale

No affiliation.

I plan to be in Norfolk this weekend if anyone wants me to check it out.

The price does seem high.

Seen $1500 to as low as $600 depending on location and season. Plus would need spinlocks to install on most Boxsters (I say most because I installed a set of spinlocks on my second Boxster and never installed the hardtop).

If someone needed a Guards Red hard top and it was convenient to their location a small premium may be appropriate. From the seller's perspective, they can lower the price if they don't receive offers.

I paid $615 for mine, but I had to drive to the NC/SC border to pick it up because the seller wouldn't ship it.

It's all about timing and location for buyers and sellers. I posted a silver or grey hard top for $1,400 on craigslist near me that everyone thought was expensive. It's no longer posted so maybe he sold it. I got mine for about $1,100 on eBay and drove to Long Island right after a major snow storm to pick it up. My car is a Seal Grey S and this was a Seal Grey S hardtop - there are actually standard and S hardtops I found out afterwards, the S version has the titanium color plastic trim on the rear window to match the windshield trim. I wouldn't have cared either way but I lucked out. Later on Craigslist I saw a hardtop that had been resprayed Guards Red going for $600. The seller was an auto body shop, selling it because the person who brought it in never came back to pay for it and pick it up. I have a friend with a Guards Red Boxster and couldn't get him interested.

I think anything under $1000 is a good deal. Anything over $1500 is too much. I found mine on CL for $300.

I think they will become more rare over time and more expensive. It is not like they are easily obtainable. If I get rid of my car I am keeping the top. I will sell it separately.

What percent of our cars crash each year or have failures that render them uneconomical to repair? And then hardtops become available.

Demand is up because more tracks want them for insurance reasons. But for most putting a ~$1k top on a car worth less than $10k???

Based on the recent sale of my guards red hardtop there was no lack of demand. The biggest issue is shipping. I had a guy from California come out to Phoenix to pick it up. The top was an earlier hardtop with the ears and I included a roller stand and factory cover and sold it for $1,500. Many factors go into what these tops sell for. Condition, color match to the buyer needs as repainting is an expensive proposition and is never as good as factory paint, top location relative to buyer location, time of year relative to when the top is used (in Phoenix and other hot summer areas of the country the interest is different then parts of the country with cold winters), areas of the country were there are a lot of tracks and hardtop usage at the track is required), etc.
