It could be the mechanized release. It happened on my 01 S two years ago. There's an emergency release access inside the driver's side rear wheel well.

If everything else is working ok with your key...
Have someone press the button while you listen for any sound from the solenoid at the trunk latch. If no noise, hunt fuses!
If noise, use emergency access cable and see if what's broke!

Best of luck!

I cant find the trunk release

I looked behind both back wheels today...no go.

My Frunk will open with the Fob or the button on the jamb...but the back will not respond to either. So it mush be a problem at the device.

It is actually behind the rear bumper cover, which has to be removed to see it:

The day-to-day cable to my 01S truck broke where it attaches to the release. I was able to use the emergency cable to open the trunk and repair it.

Here's my the main point. Knowing I can release the rear bumperette with a 40 torx driver, I relocated the emergency cable to there when I had the rear bumper off. This is similar to what many people do with the Frunk and tow hole.

What is strange is even when dead quiet I cannot even hear a click or any sound from the trunk mechanism

Garage
I had that happen a few months ago
It turned out the "eyelet"m at the end of the solenoid cable was broken due to a frayed cable

I found a used solenoid on ebay and it's an easy DIY to replace

I found info in a search.
There was a thread on repairing it, but since the cable is stainless, it is very hard to solder

Getting to the manual release was a PITA. Remove the left rear wheel and fender lining and reach in for it. IIRC, I had to "bend" some of the heat shield to get atit

Hope I do not have to take the rear bumper off

I sincerely hope I can get to it through the wheel well, for some reason I seem h to have bad luck with trim parts on any car....I surly do not want to mess the back bumper up. Every bumper removal DIY I read started by saying open the trunk first......well that is my problem. Will have to wait for the weekend....thanks for all the help folks
