I had that happen a few months ago
It turned out the "eyelet"m at the end of the solenoid cable was broken due to a frayed cable

I found a used solenoid on ebay and it's an easy DIY to replace

I found info in a search.
There was a thread on repairing it, but since the cable is stainless, it is very hard to solder

Getting to the manual release was a PITA. Remove the left rear wheel and fender lining and reach in for it. IIRC, I had to "bend" some of the heat shield to get atit
