The day-to-day cable to my 01S truck broke where it attaches to the release. I was able to use the emergency cable to open the trunk and repair it.
Here's my the main point. Knowing I can release the rear bumperette with a 40 torx driver, I relocated the emergency cable to there when I had the rear bumper off. This is similar to what many people do with the Frunk and tow hole.
