So, you have a $12k base Boxster with mismatched paint and 160k+ miles?

Pretty much. Its a re-spray, but not mismatched. Its all Artic silver 92U IIRC.

Its fun for me. The noises and torque are amazing. And should I be so inclined I could put an LS motor in it. The mounts are the same between LS and SBC*.

* the mounts I used are the three bolt SBC mounts, but you can buy identical mounts (4 bolt) that the LS uses and they would affix to the subframe in the same way as the ones I have. I've seen adaptor plates used, but TBH that might throw off the geometry a bit more than I'd like.

I'm not looking to sell and I wouldn't use that number as even a baseline for pricing. I just keep good accounting on all my projects. I guess if I was to sell this "thing" I'd start by LS swapping it and then find other LS swapped boxes and use that pricing. I don't think there are many people who would want a 4.3 in a boxster regardless of boost. LOL

EDIT: What did you pay for your boxster? Is it "numbers"? OEM pristine paint/body?

My turn:
-Base boxster, 1999, Ocean blue Metallic
-100000 miles
-I`m the 3rd owner
-$1400

I bought it two years ago from a guy who wanted to convert it into electric by swapping a Tesla motor in it. Could have been a nice built, but he never got around doing it, so the car spent a year in his garage accumulating dust, scratches and a few dents here and there. He had purchased it from the 1st owner, who had kept it in his garage for 10 years, with an alleged IMS failure, and he had been told the car needed a new engine. Hence the low miles and the well preserved paint and headlights.
Here`s a shot of when I towed it home:

And now, after spending several weekends in the past two years and pouring about EDIT: ~$2000 in parts into a complete engine rebuild (the IMSB was the best looking part in the engine, but the little things add up...). Just got new tires and passed smog.

The u-haul rent-a-tow truck. That image is always in the back of my mind everytime I go on a long road trip.

Nice having a fully rebuilt engine isn't it. You really get to know a machine when you put your hands on its rings.

Impressive. You should do this for the living, towing truck drivers make a good money

Bought this June 2020

1999 Boxster 5-speed manual
Ocean Jade Metallic
50,000 miles
Price paid: $3,852.20 (Price was agreed as $7,000 minus whatever it cost to make certain repairs)
Bought in Southern California

Has Sport Touring Package
"Unicorn" upgrade paint color
8-way electric all leather memory seats
Upgraded wheels
Premium Sound Package
Speed Control
Remote Control Alarm System
Wind Deflector
Radio: AM/FM Stereo w/CD
Remote 6 Disc CD Changer
On Board Computer
Aluminum Instrument Dials
Roll Bar Painted Silver
Aluminum/Leather Brake/Shifter
Stainless Steel Door Sills w/Insignia
Chrome Oval Center Exhaust Pipe
Cruise control
Lighted vanity mirrors
Glass rear window
Rear window defroster

The engine was in fantastic shape, but paint, interior, clutch, axles, brakes, top, rubber seals, stereo, and seats were all in poor condition. So I put more money into it than I paid for it. And now it's sweet and looks/drives practically brand new.

I'll play, and I'm in the camp knowing I overpaid some.

99 Boxster, 63k miles. $10,500. Interior seriously looks brand spanking new. The paint has a significant number of rock chips but otherwise the exterior is in good shape. New top with glass rear window. Nearly new tires. It sounds like every rubber piece in the suspension needs to be replaced lol! Locations is Central Fl and I wanted something local vs having to travel to get.

I'm admittedly picky on the interior and was willing to pay a premium to get a nice one.

I need more pictures as this is the third time I've posted this pic today lol!

No doubt. I'm perfectly comfortable with the decision. Boxster prices seem a little elevated in Florida anyway for rather obvious reasons.

When I purchased mine I found the opposite to be the case. I was looking at a couple boxster here in the upper Midwest. I went down to Florida to visit my mother. After searching the Florida cl adds I found a few nice examples for quite a bit less money. I ended up coming home and later making a deal. I met the seller at the airport and drove it back to Michigan. They bought the one way ticket. There are just more of them down there. I think you can get an even better deal on the west coast just from what I have observed

Yeah, timing matters and I didn't even look much outside the Orlando area. I really wanted one with a nice interior. I didn't expect to find one with a perfect 10 interior on a 21 year old car. Much less 20 miles away from me. It goes a long ways to making a new to me car feel new lol! Even if I do know that there's a bunch of work to be done.

If you just focus on what you paid for the car, you did not over pay. And, judging by your smile, you definitely did not over pay. Enjoy!
