just wondering if there are any less expensive alternatives for headlights for an 01 boxster. love the xenon HID look but so expensive. I am looking to get rid of that amber lens in front headlight area. thanks !

Used clear style halogen will run you about $400-$500
New clear halogen, $795 shipped.
Used clear Litronics, $800-$1000.
New clear Litronics $2500 or so (who cares, no one is going to pay that ).
eBay LED crapfest headlights straight from Taiwan, $995 (don't do it).

The best option for price and performance, decent used clear halogens retrofitted with Fred's GT Projectors. His kit runs around $400 on top of the cost of headlights and aren't currently available, but they look and perform great.
You could also opt for a run-of-the-mill projector kit for around $100-$150. They don't look or perform as good as Fred's, but still much better than halogen.

Those are your options for getting rid of the amber.

There's a thread in the DIY forum that you'd like, but orders for the kits shown above are temporarily on hold. I'll be sure to let everyone know if I hear anything first, but Fred will pop in and let everyone know when he's ready for orders.

The kit is called "GT Projectors" and there are 3 models, all have CNC aluminum shrouds and bezels and are absolutely gorgeous.

Really like that silver sleek look. That is what I am trying to accomplish. how do I get that entire kit
the entire clear housing, silver vivo kit etc.?

Yes, that's correct. Headlights and projectors are going to run $1200 if you buy new.

As an alternative, see the below picture. Amber headlights really aren't bad if done right. I blacked out the inside shrouds on this set and installed the clear style corner trims, which makes the amber much darker and almost nonexistent.
I really liked these headlights on my car.
If your current headlights are Amber, the kit installed below was $150 and clear corner trims are about $60-$75 used and $115-$150 new, so that would be the budget route and still looks good.

The most difficult part is opening the headlight assembly to install the projector. Here's a Youtube video (courtesy of Particlewave) that shows how to do it:

I have not installed the projectors, but I opened two litronic headlights to perform repairs. I think that it is a "4" on the difficulty scale. The toughest part may be coming to grips with the concept of baking a headlight in an oven.

is it difficult to take the assembly out? it looks like you have to remove wheel well.

I have an 01 and removal of the light assembly was simple. There is a tool in your took kit that just unlocks them from inside the frunk. They then slide out.

Be careful to make sure you lock them in or they can slide out on the road.

Does anyone know why these projector lights are so hard to come by? It seems no one has available and not a clue when they will have in stock.

As I mentioned, these aren't a commercial product. They were made by one guy working out of his shop. Until he pops back on here and says that he's ready to make more, there is no other way to get them.

Pelican had 1 or 2 sets left, but they were all black and may be sold out by now.
