I loved my 2007 550i until it was just 6 years old with 61k on it and it had 3 oil leaks and the suspension was completely shot and I'd already replaced all the coil packs and the coolant overflow and the power steering pump and the high pressure hoses and the list goes on and on and on.

They are terribly undependable cars since the mid 2000's and believe it or not, my much older Boxster is more dependable than that BMW was.

The only terms under which I would own another BMW would be a brand new one on a lease with full maintenance and repairs covered and it shall go directly to the sales lot the day it goes out of warranty if I could stomach all the time required for it to be in the shop for warranty work.

I hope your friend's kid has deep pockets and lots of patience. He'll need it!
