Not a Boxster but a heck of a thrill to drive
 

A good friend of mine son just purchased this and brought it over for me to look at. He then asked me if I wanted to drive it....silly question

It was a brute of a car in full "M" mode, so different from the Boxster.......and at more than double the HP it should be

Eyes just flow directly to the sexy "S" behind it.

No matter how you look at it the Boxster just looks like race car heritage.

BMW will just have to try harder with their designs ;)

Always really liked CERTAIN BMW's.This year model looks right. If I decided on one, the M versions would be at the top of the list.

2-piston brakes I'm assuming still?

Saw a M series a few days back. Next to me. Brakes were all showy and 2-piston clamp type. Lol.

This is a M6 with a V10 , owner said it had F1 brakes...the calipers were huge. I stood on them at 100mph and it stopped like a cable was attached to the back

I'm so jealous! The e63 v10 M6 is still one of my dream cars. When I was shopping for a 6 series, years ago, I ended up having to settle for a 645ci due to M6's not being within my price range. Those M6's are awesome cars and sound amazing.

Those V-12s are very cool. I hope he has the rare manual transmission. The SMG trans have a bad reputation.

I have a 2012 535I M-Sport. It is our travel car and is amazing. I special ordered it with all the bells and whistles. The heads-up display and active cruise control are very cool. And, it gets 29 MPG on the highway. The 535 diesels get in the 40s. We picked it up at the Welt in Munich. Great experience.

IMHO, BMW has sold their soul with the "M". My 535 is far from an M car yet there are "M"s all over it. Oh well.

We are selling my wife's Mini Cooper and getting her the new M2. I have two deposits at dealers and with any luck will get one in May or June. And, she wants a manual transmission. We'll do another European Delivery. The blue one is the new M2.

I saw an m2 test car between Spartenberg and Asheville. Looked great, the perfect size.

Ok, not to 'dis' BMW, as I have owned and enjoyed a 99 Z3 (2.3), 2 99 M Roadsters, a Z4 (3.0) and 2 E46 series cars.

but...

I don't get it right now. I can't differentiate between 1, 2, 3, and 4 series cars. I'm not saying I don't like them but they appear more similar than different. If I went to the dealer right now, I'd have no idea what to look at.

Zactly. I've been wondering what's up with that company for years now. The 3 gets too big, so they create the 1. Then they kill the 1 and bring out the 2 and 4. They must sell 75 or more variants of cars, let alone the SUV stuff.

Personally, I like their older iron. Shark nose M5. The old M6. The 850. The 2002 tii :)...

A friend of mine got to drive a V10 M6 at the Nurburgring! He said it was extremely fast, but also very heavy. From what he said, it was pretty scary to drive at the 'Ring because the car would gain speed so quickly and deceptively that it was easy to end up going too fast for a turn, and then the weight of the car made it pretty hard to manage things. He said it was a much better street car than a track car. He also drove the M3 and M5 there, and said they were a lot more fun because they weighed less.

I loved my 2007 550i until it was just 6 years old with 61k on it and it had 3 oil leaks and the suspension was completely shot and I'd already replaced all the coil packs and the coolant overflow and the power steering pump and the high pressure hoses and the list goes on and on and on.

They are terribly undependable cars since the mid 2000's and believe it or not, my much older Boxster is more dependable than that BMW was.

The only terms under which I would own another BMW would be a brand new one on a lease with full maintenance and repairs covered and it shall go directly to the sales lot the day it goes out of warranty if I could stomach all the time required for it to be in the shop for warranty work.

I hope your friend's kid has deep pockets and lots of patience. He'll need it!

I thought I'd chime in here since I'm on my 4th BMW. They are fantastic cars but require maintenance, not unlike our boxsters.

Had two five series (one 1998 and one 2001) which I sold with nearly 150k. Both required nothing but preventative maintenance, great cars!

Then I drove an 05 7 series which was my favorite car I've ever had! It was definitely a high maintenance car which required a lot of repairs. Got to be way too expensive to drive, I was scared to death of the next warning light.

Currently have a 328 diesel. Still under warranty with maintenance plan, time will tell but so far it's been a great car.

Agreed , this M6 went from 50mph to 120 mph so fast it was deceiving....it did have fantastic brakes
