Yeah, kinda nuts. There are 7 993 turbos on eBay at/above 200k, including this 97 turbo S at 500k
Porsche 911 Turbo S | eBay
All nice cars, but I can't believe how much they are going for.

I'm thinking of putting some "illist" and prancing horse stickers on my '98 to make it track ready and double the value.

Definitely not a track car, especially with M&S tires, even if it does have coilovers and a wing
Love the painted calipers, high quality work

I guess I'll sit on my 1966 912 for a little while longer. Paid $2,500 for it in 1997, did an engine overhaul then took it to Sardinia Italy and used it as my daily driver for 4 years. Brought it back home, drove it for a few years and it has sat since 2007. No time to work on it. Once I get my Box up and running, might shift gears and take a look at the 912 again. Fun car to drive, I miss it...

Well, prices are rising. Even for 996 cars with with Mezger engines.
2004 996 Turbo S with 60.000 Km in good condition was sold for 95K (100K USD) euro. And that price was paid last week. So not an offer no one bought. 2 years ago that car was around 60 K euros.
Prize tags for 996 and 997 with Mezger engine have been risen by 50-100% in the last 2 years over here in europe.
Problem will still be the 996 and 986 without Mezger engine. They get lower, maybe they stagnate some time. But maintenance and parts prices are still high and getting higher. So not an investment if you looking on the money side.
Regards, Markus

I think this Air Cooled bubble is going to creep into the early water cooled. Not the Basic stuff like 996, 986 but the 996 Turbo. There are many thoughts that the 996 turbo could be the the best performance car you can get in the mid $50k range. It will be interesting to see how the values of these type cars are influenced by the increasing 993 prices

I think Boxsters will eventually gain value simply from the fact that they're currently priced in the Dodge Neon range and therefore attract a crowd that's going to ruin many of them.

I think they'll attract people due to the price, but not the crowd you're referring to.
In the decade plus of driving this car I've been approached by all kinds of people asking questions, simply making comments all unanimously positive. One thing I noticed repeatedly is that many people who were currently driving "Dodge Neon range" cars when they approached were all very hesitant or absolutely terrified about the costs of running a Porsche, or any high end German car for that matter. The only people who did not run away when I told them what it costs to maintain, were guys who were in pretty nice cars already but didn't know much about Porsche. These tended to be guys in their late 30's to mid 50's, dressed well, maybe wearing a nice watch and just gave you the impression that they were established in their careers. And even since prices have fallen to below $10 for the first Boxsters, I've not seen ANY young people in these cars. All of the Google searching that comes up with IMS probably has a role in getting young people or people on limited budgets turned off to these cars. But I agree, a very high % of Boxsters will be in the scrap heap simply because defferred maintenance can quickly outrun the cost of buying the car in the first place. It's really a DIY'ers car, and one with space, time, tools and $$$ to install the overpriced parts... a small slice of the public.

I hope you're right about the owners, but there sure are some awful customs happening. Fender flares? Big wings?
