well, it cost me a bit more than 13K.
that's a price range for a high mileage 99.
the major price drop is for cars with over 100K
i was also looking at a 2001 with 75K that needed tires, clutch, and starter (not big deal) that i could pick up for 15K.
i decided to put some more $$$ and get the 2002.
not only that this one was highly optioned, in 2002 Porsche introduced many upgrades to the 996. (in fact, 2002-2005 models are called 996.2)
the major changes are re enforced chassis, and a 3.6 engine (315hp) over the 3.4 (300hp).
this way or the other, 18-19K can get you a very nice car in my part of the country.
