Great Craigslist score today !

So last night I'm looking through the local CL ads to see if any diamonds in the rough are out there. I come across a Boxster hardtop for 600.00. Not bad I thought. So I fired off a text and the guy answers back. We exchange a few texts and then proceed to a phone call. Turns out it is a local Fiat dealership that is moving from one location to another. The boss told the guy I talked to have a fire sale to get rid of all this stuff ! The hardtop was in that stuff. I'm on the phone 30 seconds with the guy when he says you can have it for 300.00 I just need to get rid of it ! So I made arrangements to pick it up late this afternoon. I would say it's a 9 out of 10 with just a few tiny stone chips. The inside/headliner is immaculate. And when I was looking it over I noticed it came with the mounting hardware !! And if that wasn't enough it's already Arctic Silver so it matches my car perfect !!! This may be my best CL score to date. I am enjoying an adult beverage as I type this to celebrate the purchase.

Wow, I'll say you scored! I think I paid $1500 for mine with the mounting hardware.

Well the joy of this score just left the building...........I think it is a Carrera hardtop ! It was raining when I picked it up and didn't look it over good enough........crap. It has a shelf under the rear window and the roofline window opening doesn't look right. My car isn't here it's at Jakes getting the new engine. Oh well I guess I will flip it and maybe make some coin.

It still sounds like a great deal, I'm sure you can sell it and make some easy money on it.

Yeah, that's still a major score. Just flip that bad boy and you can get enough coin to get a Box hardtop easy. So, in the end you can still get a Box hardtop basically for $300.

Carrera hardtops are far more common then the Boxster hardtops since they came standard with the Carreras. That's a bummer.

Yeah the Carrera hardtops are going for a lot cheaper. But you got the mounting hardware, that is over $100, you can keep that and flip the hardtop.

There was one for sale on CL in the DFW area

a few weeks ago. I called the owner who said someone was coming to look at it in the morning. They had it listed for $200. I told them to put me next in line if the guy decides to pass and I would make the 2 hr trip to pick it up at which point the owner said that I could make an offer. That was the point that it became obvious that the person was unscrupulous as far as morals in that they were going to have me bid against the guy. I told the owner I would do $250 and no more. They were shocked that I would drive 2 hours to get the hardtop...I figured it was as good as gone though they did say they would call me in the morning to let me know for sure, so I told the owner they usually sell for $800-1000 to someone that really wants one. They were shocked....about 15 minutes after I hung up with them the ad was edited and the price was now $600...the ad was deleted in the morning. I was half tempted to text the owner and ask for my half of the sale price....something makes me think this kind of thing would have been rare 30 or 40 years ago but people's actions do not surprise me in the least on CL thesedays.
