Worthy Interior Upgrade

I replaced my unused ashtray. Now I have a place for spare change at the drive through.

2000 Porsche Boxster Roadster S H6 3.2L Interior Center Console - 99655209600B12KT - Non-Smokers Shelf Console Kit - Black-Grey - ES#2550961

I am using the ashtray to store my change and I don't find it to be inefficient.
Is the non-smoking storage that much bigger?

Anybody knows how big is the color difference between the black version ($82) and the black-grey version ($34)? Is it worth the $50 gap?

You must carry a lot of change to need twice the space!

There's a difference and it will stick out. If your center console is scratched up and you have plans to paint it soon, then I would buy the $34 one.

Good question. I just ordered the black-grey version from Paramount Parts to replace my ash tray on my 2000 S. This is my first go at replacing interior bits on my car, and from what I can tell my 2000 S must be so early that it still uses the 99 interior bits on it. For example I need to replace the drivers side mirror switch plate on the door, but the part # shows its only for 97-99 when I run the part I have against the database. Also my 2000 has the earlier O2 sensor, and I suspect the earlier dual row bearing. Long story short there looks to be a lot of changeover mid model year for my car.

Anyway, I've ordered the black-grey, and when I get it I can post pictures against my center console and ash tray to see if there is a big difference. Although it just as well might match up without any issue.

I prefer the ashtray because it can be closed for a cleaner look. I bought the ashtray delete kit and had it installed for a couple days before selling it. I didn't like the huge crater.

It's like having a huge ashtray that's always open.

and it gets all dirty in that crater. I'm constantly cleaning the cubby hole on the passenger side door sill. I'm like how the heck is this always getting dirty?! I never use it and that door rarely opens.

It does get dirty in there and little stuff piles up. But I like it, I put my GPS in there when I am on the track, and my sanitizer when I am not.

I have a 2000 S with black interior and I got the cheap one, the black/grey it matches up just fine, I couldn't tell any difference. I will post some pictures tonight. Tbh I am not sure what the difference is between black and black/grey, maybe it has to do with the model years? My 2000 is a relatively early one so maybe I have some of the 99 interior?

LOL sometimes the electronic tool booth line is longer than the cash one.

In the NY/NJ tunnels you pay your toll faster with EZ pass but then you're stuck in the same parking lot traffic once you're past the toll booth.

In VA it can make a world of difference. Also at the Bay bridge in MD. That line gets ridiculous and you can usually zip right through with the EZ pass.

[QUOTE=EJ-Fresno;466319]I am using the ashtray to store my change and I don't find it to be inefficient.QUOTE]

EJ, you may want to rethink using your ashtray for coin storage. During some spirited driving the first couple of months of ownership I was unable to shift into a gear because change had moved from the inside of the ash tray to inside the gear shift mechanism under the boot.

Freaked me out and I felt really foolish when my tech popped off the leather boot and took some needle nose pliers and pulled out a couple of pennies, a nickel and a dime or two and said, "ash trays are for ashes, not spare change. That'll be $100 for a minimum labor charge." (Fortunately he was kidding, and I thanked him and told him to keep the change!!!!)

OP: I have that non smoker tray in now and LOVE IT! Great place to set stuff I need to keep handy.
