Thanks for your service. I started in Hueys, but flew Hawks most of my career. Civilian now.
We were pretty sure that strike was a duck, but it was hard to be certain. It was a good thump when it hit (125kt/144mph), but I didn't think there was much damage 'till we smelled it. Crew joked that they though the smell was me. Guts on my shins. We continued to our destination (not much further) and had it trailered out for repair.
