A lot of miles yet a pretty consistent ~20K year for the last 12 years.

Help me out, what's a "roller"? A car with a blown engine?

The 2004 Boxster 550 Special Edition in summary:
- 264 hp, 7 more than the Boxster S (largely due to ECU reprogramming)
- 987 airbox
- shorter-throw manual shifter
- unique stainless steel exhaust tip
- 10-mm-lower suspension (M030) with five-mm-wider track (via factory spacers)
- Xenon headlights
- full leather interior (in Cocoa or Dark Gray with matching convertible top)
- sports seats
- black face instruments with chrome trim rings
- aluminum finish brake calipers
- GT Metallic Silver exterior with matching interior trim
- 18” Carrera Light wheels painted in two tone Seal Gray and Arctic Silver
- SE 'red' tailights
- only 500 of the 1,953 total worldwide production were exported to the US for sale
Asking prices are running around 12,000 to 29,000 USD right now. There are currently three or four for sale on Craiglist.
The SE has dedicated Porsche issued product literature, posters, etc. and it was the last year for 986 production. Typical move for Porsche to issue an SE edition at the end of a model run.

I've seen a few SE tips recently. I can't find any production or import numbers for the tip equipped SEs. They missed out on the 'shorter throw shifter' for sure

I understand all that. What I was asking is how Ottomotion knew from the picture of that car in Florida that it was a 550 Spyder. What gave it away? What was the telltale sign?

Taking a quick glance at the Florida ad:
- the two tone Seal Gray/Arctic Silver Carrera Light wheels
- the aluminum finished brake calipers
- the GT Metallic Silver interior trim pieces
- the black gauge faces with chrome trim rings
- the plaque on the center console batwing
- the unique exhaust tip
Not applicable for this Florida ad (because it is one of the dark gray ones), a Cocoa interior color with matching convertible top

OK, thank you. I guess it's an open and shut case.

You're welcome. BTW, that particular car is missing the rear air dam (spoiler) cover.

Probably should be somewhere at least in the low $20's, if I had to guess.

Agree w/ BoxMann that at 1st glance would think price would be right at $20K. I've seen 2010 base Boxsters w/ 70K mi in the $21-22K range. However...
No Carfax so we don't know how many fender benders / bumps & bruises.
At that mileage, you should assume the clutch is toast.
It probably needs a set of tires, brake pads, and rotors.
Combined, these items would drop the price to around $15K, so probably not too underpriced. When was the last time a dealer unknowingly underpriced a car? Would assume the worst on this one.

Well, that's kinda what I meant when I said it was "too cheap" -- i.e., that it had a bad history and/or needed a bunch of work.
You're not just buying a Boxster here, you're buying a project, and maybe a headache too.

There is a 29k-Mile 2008 Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder on auction on Bringatrailer.com that looks very well maintained in case anyone's looking.

That's a sweet looking car. What do you think it would go for? I'll bet the Reserve is low $20's.

It's not that bad.
This car was listed for $20K back in the summer. came down to $18K and then we had a visit from Hurricane Michael. The dealership is in good shape but most folks are preoccupied with recovery issues Yesterday was two months since the storm hit and It'll be years before the east end Panama City is back to normal. Panama City Beach was spared and is fine for anyone making vacation plans!
I digress.
Yes, the car not a garage queen and it has a weird past. I almost bought this car a few years ago in the winter for $16.8K . In the last three or four years, it's been for sale 4 times on three different lots. I does raise red flags, but if you looked at the car and drove it, you'd wonder why. IIRC, tires were fine, pads would need attention but rotors were ok. Who knows about the clutch but it felt fine.
Not trying to talk anyone into the car but for anyone with DYI skills, I doubt you'd have much $ risk.
