Ok, I have a PPI scheduled for today... If it comes out clean, I may be the owner of a 996... Apologies, I know this is a 986 forum, but I welcome your inputs just the same....

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/1999-porsche-c2-carrera/6664979130.html

The owner is a very meticulous mechanical engineer and the cosmetics of the car are top notch... Hopefully the mechanical condition matches the standard of the rest of the car....

Oh, the rag is in the picture because he used to have a Carrera 4 and his wife liked the look of the Carrera 4 emblem, so she bought the "4" and stuck it to the rear of the car... I will be removing that if I buy it...

Nice looking 996. Custom paint?

Where you taking it for PPI?

It's Palladio Gold, not a very common color for the car, but it looks great (especially with the Black soft top). I like the fact that it is not Silver (or some shade of grey... no offense intended).

I am taking it to a shop in San Jose (Flintworks). Good Yelp ratings, so hopefully nothing major turns up in the PPI

I had looked at a 996 in San Luis Obispo 2 days earlier that looked to have been driven hard and put away wet, and the seller was asking $16.5K. You could not get that car to the level of this one for $1K. The car in San Luis Obispo had the IMS bearing changed (whereas the gold one has the original bearing), however I am not too concerned about the double-row in the 99. If the engine and transmission ever need to come out, I can address it then...

Flintworks is a good shop - or it was - I believe it was sold a couple years ago?

Good luck with the PPI. Make sure you get the proper cam deviation numbers!
Agreed, it's a nice color and looks clean!

I hope you plan to keep it for a long time, since automatics have very little demand.

Yesterday I bought a set of 17" Turbo Twist wheels off of Craigslist in the Seattle area. $280! They are off of a 996, so the rears are 9 X 17, with 7mm less offset. I have spacers, so that shouldn't be a problem. The front wheels are the same as 986 wheels.

The wheels have some minor curb rash, but I got these for a set of track tires, so I don't really care.

Nice Hard Top in Seal Grey. I actually purchased my top from these guys, it's a dealership that sells a lot of Porsches. When i bought mine they were very accommodating, actually held the top for 3 weeks and brought it with them to an auction closer to my house to save me 3hrs travel time.

If anyone is interested, i'd contact them:

This is the car I sold in early July. New owner has put 5,000 miles on it. Not sure about the exhaust leak he mentions. It may be true given its the original exhaust and I never did anything with it.
Great, reliable car if anyone is looking....

Thankfully, I'm not you...because I'd be tempted (and face the "wrath of wife") to buy it back. I get too overly attached to stuff....

I bought a neighbors 2003 911 cab with 67K miles. Nice car and I'm happy with it but for the money, the Boxster is a way better deal.
