Many regular readers have heard of many a "Boxter" advertised for sale, but seeing a "Boxester" was a new one for me...

It also has four cylinders, maybe a 718 prototype?

Porsche Boxester

Looks like they made sure to advertise it includes the rare "tachometer" option. I'm green envy.

Rare Porsche Boxster with the European Package;

Porsche Boxster European Package

I believe One of only Two in the U.S. 97 Porsche Boxster with the European Package. This car is sweet. 5 spd, telescope wheel, cruise, P/W, P/L, P/S, cold A/C, auto/manuel rear spoiler, 19" turbo carrera wheels, almost new tires, etc, etc. I just spent $11,000.00 on the engine with documented 42,766 miles and includes a 12 mos./12,000 mile parts and labor warranty, new clutch, new exhaust, and much much more. This car has a factory removable hard top. It is in excellent condition physically and mechanically. I have all receipts and records.

Over $25,000.00 invested. Must Sell $14,900.00. Please call Ed @ show contact info Thank you for your consideration.

I think that's a nice looking 986. Decent mods and a lower mile engine replacement. It is still a 1997 with 130,000 miles on it ...$14,900? I'm sorry that he spent over $25,000 on it, but perhaps that was just incidental to the seller.
What is the European Package? -ROW model? I'm pretty sure that all that body kit stuff is just aftermarket.

To be fair it's somewhat tasteful and at least has a hardtop! Still too high of a price, I've never understood why everyone modifies the slowest boxsters to begin with. If you're going to invest so much money into the car to make it look the way you want, why not start of with the fastest car to begin with.

Very Rare Green Shade

Not CL, but eBay and not Boxster related. However, as the owner of a 1966 912, I have to wonder, what anyone would do w/this scrap heap.

Is that a Ferrari Daytona or 400 in the background? Oh, the horror!

No. None of it is tasteful. 100% tacky.

You need to quit insulting half of our members cars in a single post.
To suggest someone's car isn't worth modding or putting money into simply because it's a base is just plain idiotic. Knock it off.

Scratch that.

It isn't an economically wise decision to put 25k into a car that's slower than one that's 3k more expensive lol.

I've done quite a bit of modding to my lowly base model over the years. I get what you are saying about starting with an S instead of a base. But when I bought my 98 base with full leather interior and aero kit 6 years ago, a bottom of the barrel S was over 5K more than my car. While I wouldn't mind a little more HP, I have driven a few S's. They are not much faster than my car. It could be because of some of the mods i've done such as underdrive pulley, Ben's short shifter, lighter wheels and weight reduction. Or it could be just I got lucky with a strong engine and the S's I drove were kinda beat. Whatever the reason i'm more than happy with the base model I have made one of a kind to my own liking

You're thinking of it in terms of what you pay now for an used 986 S vs a Base. I bought mine 15 yrs ago (and I'm sure a lot of others here have had theirs for a while too), where there was a larger price differential between a base an S model. In addition, I really didn't read up or care about the differences. All I knew at the time was that I took a test drive, and they only had a black, silver, and yellow one at the time available for a drive, and I really liked silver, and so I test drove it (and it was a base). When I drove it, I fell in love with, and didn't even know or care there was a higher spec'd model. Over the years, I put a lot of touches that I liked into the car, and I don't regret not getting the S cause the car is really darned fun and reliable. I read about folks with S models having 2nd gear grinding or kick out issues, or cracked CV boots, and I haven't had either of these issues in my base. Through my local Porsche gathering friends, I've driven the 986S, 987S, 997S, and 996 GT3, and while they're all great, and faster than my car, my car ain't much less fun than theirs to be honest. If someone offered an even trade for their 986S for my 986 right now, I'd decline because I've had a lot of fun with mine, and like the way my car is set up. So yeah, it may not make sense to you to spend money upgrading a lower model, but that may not be how everyone thinks if they happen to like their current car.

I'm not hating on bases or personalized bases.

I'm talking about the craigslist cars in this thread with likely upwards of 5 owners and gigantic body kits.

They're also mostly wussamatics

Again I won't Jude someone for buying an auto. But I will for buying an auto then dressing it like it's out of fast and furious.

Well you should! J/K.... but yeah, agree...it does look a little corny when you see a bodykitted out Porsche with a tiptronic.
