I'm tempted to buy one of these and either try to fix, or if all else fails part it out so I can take one apart.
I parted out a 1992 Mercedes 500SL a couple years ago and made 8k net. I've never done a boxster though. I'm not sure how much you can get parting out. It's a great way to get to know how everything fits together though. What do you think?

1984 Camero Roadster (No, please, no)
My opinion, the early 1980s were not good years for American cars. Luckily most examples have long since been crushed and turned into Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas. Here is one that manged to survive as a shinning example of 1980s USA automotive prowess:

Is this the most un-Boxster Roadster possible?
For what it is, it actually looks very well done. ...for what it is.

996 suspension
Not mine and not for a Boxster, BUT seems like a pretty good deal if you have a 996 coupe.

Finally, and we ALL seen ads like this before, if the car ONLY needs a $175 AOS, why not have it replaced and list the car for $1000 more?
Just sayin'..............

He likely has the key in the on/acc position but has not started it.

You are correct; my bad. I was able to duplicate the screen shot with my wife's Cayman.
But it illustrates a point I've made before; if one wants to successfully sell a Porsche, at least consider how the pictures will look to prospective buyers. A myriad of warning lights doesn't look good. Neither do these actual pictures of Porsche dashes displayed in ads:
Stationary........and 1000 RPM above redline.
Oil level below minimum.
Just sayin'.............

$12000 for an S with only 66,000 miles is an okay deal in Texas. I've seen lower and higher for an equivalent S.

This one says it's purple, so I think it is Viola Metallic. Yes, it has high mileage and needs a little TLC, but it's VIOLA METALLIC. That alone is worth $5k or so.
https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/d/porsche-boxster/6192708292.html
Looks like it comes with hard top and a lot of extra parts.

Too many miles?
How many miles is too many miles for these M96 engines? I found what may be a good deal but it has 172,000 miles. Everything else I see out there is around 60k-100k but most owners seem to be over asking.

What's over asking? Mileage is important but at the age these cars are at maintenance is much more important. If there is proof of maintenance throughout the years the the Boxster in question is likely a better candidate then a low mileage garage queen that has had little done over the years. Keep in mind there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche. You going to pay now or later with later generally being more expensive.

The highest I have heard is just over 300,000 miles, and that was a car that was tracked extensively.
