Ok, I have a PPI scheduled for today... If it comes out clean, I may be the owner of a 996... Apologies, I know this is a 986 forum, but I welcome your inputs just the same....
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/1999-porsche-c2-carrera/6664979130.html The owner is a very meticulous mechanical engineer and the cosmetics of the car are top notch... Hopefully the mechanical condition matches the standard of the rest of the car.... Oh, the rag is in the picture because he used to have a Carrera 4 and his wife liked the look of the Carrera 4 emblem, so she bought the "4" and stuck it to the rear of the car... I will be removing that if I buy it... |

Where you taking it for PPI? |
It's Palladio Gold, not a very common color for the car, but it looks great (especially with the Black soft top). I like the fact that it is not Silver (or some shade of grey... no offense intended).
I am taking it to a shop in San Jose (Flintworks). Good Yelp ratings, so hopefully nothing major turns up in the PPI I had looked at a 996 in San Luis Obispo 2 days earlier that looked to have been driven hard and put away wet, and the seller was asking $16.5K. You could not get that car to the level of this one for $1K. The car in San Luis Obispo had the IMS bearing changed (whereas the gold one has the original bearing), however I am not too concerned about the double-row in the 99. If the engine and transmission ever need to come out, I can address it then... |

Good luck with the PPI. Make sure you get the proper cam deviation numbers! Agreed, it's a nice color and looks clean! |
I hope you plan to keep it for a long time, since automatics have very little demand.

hmmm, what's with all the cocoa interiors all of a sudden ...

Yesterday I bought a set of 17" Turbo Twist wheels off of Craigslist in the Seattle area. $280! They are off of a 996, so the rears are 9 X 17, with 7mm less offset. I have spacers, so that shouldn't be a problem. The front wheels are the same as 986 wheels.
The wheels have some minor curb rash, but I got these for a set of track tires, so I don't really care. |
Sorry, I have to apologize before you click.

Nice Hard Top in Seal Grey. I actually purchased my top from these guys, it's a dealership that sells a lot of Porsches. When i bought mine they were very accommodating, actually held the top for 3 weeks and brought it with them to an auction closer to my house to save me 3hrs travel time.
If anyone is interested, i'd contact them: https://allentown.craigslist.org/pts/d/porsche-boxster-hard-top/6700701939.html |
This is the car I sold in early July. New owner has put 5,000 miles on it. Not sure about the exhaust leak he mentions. It may be true given its the original exhaust and I never did anything with it.
Great, reliable car if anyone is looking.... https://okaloosa.craigslist.org/cto/d/2000-porsche-boxter/6709785208.html |

Not for purists, but I like ‘em. |
Wasn't today but about 2 weeks ago I picked up a full set of Carrera III wheels with older winter tires for $600. Thought it was too good to be true but they turned out to be legit. Fits beautifully with a 15mm spacer in the rear and a 1.5" drop all around. Might get a set of 5mm spacers in the front.
On a side note if anyone wants to buy a set of stock boxster wheels in the PNW let me know.. |
I found this in Santa Cruz on CL. 2003 S in Meridian Metallic with Metropol Blue top and interior. Nicely optioned car in excellent condition. Under 103K on the odo.
Owner said it started making funny noise and lost power coming off frwy. Shut it down immediately. Diagnostics showed no metal in oil. No oil/coolant mix and low/no compression in #5. Fingers crossed it is a busted valve spring or at worst, something else in the top end. Owner had LN IMS done along w/$5K in misc work within 5k miles. I paid him $2500 for the car. http://i65.tinypic.com/2mzlh6u.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/5n0ozr.jpg |
Don't know how you could lose on that deal. Heck, even with a motor R/R you'd be in for less than the car is worth. Great deal and hope for the best!
|
A guy an 1.5 hrs from me was advertising his Boxster on CL and the ad said it had a hardtop he would include. I emailed him and asked if would be interested in selling just the hardtop and if so, how much?
He replied $250. I figure it was probably a unicorn but worth the drive to find out. I passed on one in Boulder earlier in the week for $850 plus shipping to my door would have been $1150. Would still have to have it painted to match my car, too. With this one even though I will have it sprayed, I think I am way ahead.... |

Yes..it's black. It wont look bad as most 986's have a black contrasting convertible top so it would have that sort of look. However, the clam shell has some clear coat fail happening and I plan on having that addressed as soon as I get the car driving again. I figure since the paint guy will have his gun all loaded up with the Meridian Silver, he might as well shoot the top too.
