Warm gear lever and transmission tunnel.

The car had been sitting for a few days so I took it out for a drive today to warm it up and enjoy the warm weather, car did great. Brought it home and shut it off outside the garage. Went back and fired it up again 30 minuets later or so. And the gear lever and transmission tunnel was fairly warm. Upon start up the car had an abnormally large poof of smoke, but it quickly went away all together. The previous owner recently replaced the aos, is there anything I should check on in the car?

I think that the back of my transmission tunnel gets pretty warm, and inside the oddments compartment. But I have never felt the shift lever warm. Just as a data point. I was at the track all weekend and did not notice the shifter being warm, and it was pretty chilly out. Just a data point. Probably normal. Where the shifter cables pass through is an opening through the rear firewall, that is mostly blocked by rubber sleeves covering the shift cables and one other cable I think that goes through there. Then there is a pretty heavy piece of foam that lays over that and then the carpet. Maybe there is a small gap between the shift cables that is letting warm air through?

I do have the aluminum knob as well, started the car again, and things felt more normal also zero smoke. I guess the smoke was the random boxster smoke that happenes occasionally (I wish these cars did not do that!) I inspected around and the e break felt normal. I also checked the trunk and rear bumper, both fairly cool. The only warm area of the car was the engine vents and the gear knob as well as part of the tunnel.

To help zero in, the ash tray was the center of heat on the tunnel, possibly air is escaping through there.

The only thing that runs through the tunnel area is the radiator supply and return lines they run just under the tunnel. I can't say I've ever felt heat through the tunnel though.
