By the way, did you know that Porsche invented the modern cone-style gear synchronizer? It was introduced in the 1952 356.

Share that with the wife tonight over dinner and impress her.

New clutch in place and after a days drive, no problem with gears so far

Seeing as how we're sidetracked anyway, mine grinds going into 5th most of the time when I shift without the clutch. But now I just use the clutch when going into 5th.

No one said anything about speed shifting... The OP was clearly talking about executing an up shift from second to third above 5000 RPM.
Ok! Maybe I better try letting the engine rev to 5,000 rpm's before shifting from 2 to 3rd! I just didn't want to push it too hard..but it looks like these 2.5's can handle it by the many posts I'm reading.

it can handle that and much more

Conventional wisdom is that you SHOULD give it some high rev driving form time to time, its good for the engine

How does one go about checking the motor mount? What do you look for?
