Mass Air Flow/Boat Anchor

Good Morning

I just replaced my maf sensor over the weekend 2000 Boxster S it was shooting codes running poorly around 4000 rpm anyway. It basically is running better no codes, smooth idle. But feels like its dragging an anchor acceleration feels like a turbo-ed car with out the turbo, its flat as a squaws track if you get my drift.

Did i read in the forum somewhere about the on board computer having to be changed on some models or years ?

Where would u look next

Pull the battery cable to do a reset, then try it.

Be sure you have the right MAF. MY 2000 there was a recall or TSB and they flashed or replaced the ECU and changed to a different MAF. Be sure the PN of the new Maf is exactly the same as the old MAF.

Yes, you will need your radio code if you disconnect the battery to reset the ECU.

Be aware that the car might initially run like crap after the ECU reset (and you'll wonder: WTF did I just do?). Just drive it normally and it will sort itself out over 40-50 miles of regular driving (along a few cold starts).

After that, if it still runs like it has permanent turbo lag, then let us know and someone will suggest the next course of action.

So here is the deal maf sensor that i bought had the last 5 numbers as 125.01
the one i removed was 125.00 buyautoparts says its the same. Does anyone forum had this issue ? There application app on the site recommended this # but

I went through the same thing a few months back, I have a 2000 non S.
Bought the exact same MAF sensor from that same supplier and also questioned the 12500/12501 discrepancy, but it did solve my cell light right way, however I was left with a flatspot at 3000 rpm that got resolved by cleaning the throttle body. I've driven 10,000 kms since with no issues.

Look on pelican parts tech info. They have a write up on MAFs and the correct PN for the 2k models. I would not rely on the seller to get you the right MAF.

Reset computer ....runs good if you didn't know how it was supposed to run. You might think it's a miata though. Did i read somewhere that the 125 01 superseded the 125.00 and there had to be a ecu software update ? thought i had but can't find

From the pelican website:

If you own a 2000 Boxster or 2000 Boxster S, then you need to make sure that you have the proper sensor installed. Much confusion lies in the fact that most people don't know if their car has been updated by Porsche or not. If the old sensor that you removed is 996.606.124.00, then you need to replace it with the same part number (or have Porsche update your DME software to accommodate the newer style sensor: see Technical Service Bulletin 1/00 2445 Air Flow Sensor -- dated 4-18-00). If the old sensor you're removing ends in 125.00 or 125.01, then replace it with 986.606.125.01 (the latest version available).

Yes, this was done to my 2000 S in 2003.

OE engine rebuilt,3.6 litre LN Engineering billet sleeves,triple row IMSB,LN rods. Deep sump oil pan with DT40 oil.

Well that's what i did to the tee and it runs like as one gentleman put it, Like the turbo is out. No codes though

. took out a 125.00 replaced with 125.01 2000 s
