Did you know it used to be black
Was looking to replace the gray trim piece in the center bumper opening as seen below due to fading. I always assumed it was gray as it matched the inlets on the other two inlets. I called the dealer to get a price quote and they said it only comes in black. What color is yours?

The parts guy at the dealer was pretty certain but I have my doubts. Curious to see what others say. A black inlet would not match he other inlets.

The 1997-2002 inserts should be black, but are notorious for fading gray. Before you replace them, try using Forever Black to redye. I recently redyed the wiper tray on my '04 since it faded to gray, now it looks great.

Yeah, they go grey. I've tried a bunch of trim restorer stuff, it never lasts, so when I pulled my bumper to clean the radiators I painted them with Rustoleum "OEM" black trim spray paint. Very happy with the results - came out black but still looks like original plastic, not like paint. Only been painted for a few weeks, so can't speak to longevity other than it's lasted longer than anything else.
*Image removed - came out flipped

They were all black until the introduction of the "S" model in 2000. Standard on all "S" models is the "titanium" colored trim on front bumper intake vents, windshield surround trim, & trunk emblems.
I don't know if this ever changed but I think it remained thru the 986's maybe longer.

My 02 S was always titanum and never black. I only know because i've removed my bumper a few times for cleaning my rads.
