LN IMS going for it

Well I have decided that at 60+k with no metal in oil filter or on LN magnetic plug, I am going to get the dual row ceramic bearings installed along with a new AOS unit. Since it is a TIP it will take a little longer than a standard. My quote for the whole thing including gaskets and minor stuff is 3 grand. Does this sound reasonable to you? JFP or Jake???? I also might do the LN oil filter change just to keep any other junk out of the engine block. Any thoughts on this? I want to do this for the peace of mind as I plan on keeping this little classic for quite awhile.

Price is not bad for a Tip car, the LN spin on filter is an excellent addition. Get a new RMS while you are in there, and replace the AOS (it is out in the open with the Tip out, and can be changed in about 15 min.).

What I wanted to hear. The RMS was replaced by the dealership under warranty when I bought the car and has not leaked a drop since. Will add the spin on filter while I am at it for added insurance and better filtration.

not a bad price. the quote i got a couple of years ago from a local (VA) shop for just an IMS and new RMS was right at $2000. i did the AOS shortly after that quote for $400. (and yeah i'm on a TIP as well)

Does this price include a pre- qualification procedure? Which of our technologies will be employed?

Are they changing your oil at the same time, or reusing it? (yes, this is occurring too much!)

Get an itemized list of what will specifically be done and what their pre- qualification includes, then a price comparison can be accurately made, but not till then.

My guestimate is that for the actual swap (and not the inspection) to a manual trans is about 10 hours labor? So how much longer does a tip take?
Then you add the price of the bearing, and the new oil and filter to sanitize the operating room.
I needed a new flywheel so that added about another 30% to the cost. After using an aftermarket flywheel in the past I didn't like what I was "feeling" then, so I decided to go OEM on the Porsche.

I`m getting my 99 done ( 133000 km ) next week. I recently did an oil change and there was zero debris in the filter. I didn`t get any maintenance records with the car and no PPI. I new the dealer and they had been doing basic maintenance on it for sometime. The car was very well looked after. The tech had advised the owner more than once to do the re. but he declined then dealt the car. I dont have the exact quote yet. It is also a tip.

How about a sump inspection or the other 16+ points that compose a proper pore- qualification prior to an IMSR procedure?

Lost of debris lives in the sump and other places, some lives in the filter canister (bottom) and never makes it into the filter.

Extraction and replacement of the IMS Bearing is just one portion of a proper and thorough IMSR procedure.

Jake, it is Advanced Auto in New Windsor, NY I know he has done a lot of L&N IMS replacements and no complaints yet. Is he on your approved list?

Understand the difference between the preferred installers and Certified Installers.
I only work with the Certified Installer program as those are the only shops that we train and the only shops that I evaluate. A "preferred Installer" just pays a fee to be listed on the LN site, like an advertisement.

That shop is not an IMS Solution Certified Installer. That doesn't mean that they can't do the job, it just means that they've never been evaluated and they are not watched over like a hawk in regard to pre- qualification procedures and registration of jobs that are carried out.

A shop and installer is only as good as their next IMS Retrofit, it doesn't how many more they have done in the past- the only one that matters is the next one.
