This happened to me once. Turns out I forgot my wife was riding with me, offering directions.

If you are audible hearing the AC compressor kick in, and it continues to blow hot air no matter what the temp is set to then you could have a couple different issues. I have had low charge in the AC system still kick on the compressor but not drop the temp. Also have experienced issues with the vent (interior) temp sensor failing. Location I believe is in the grill under the passenger side air vent. Last but not least, I have seen a stretch of climate control units fail unexpectedly, regardless of the compressor audibly turning on.

if you are in my area, you are more then welcome to drop by.
we can charge up the system, and also replace the AC controls, and see if it is in fault.
i have an extra control for 00 and up, and the 97-99 from my car.
