Accident or ************************************?

I'm assuming since this is in the sidewall, it probably can't be patched? People suck.

I wouldnt be surprised if you picked that up on the highway somewhere... hard to rule out vandalism, but its amazing the crap that tires pick up (even in the sidewalls).

patch is fine as long as you drive under 15mph at all times, and preferably when I'm not around.

That doesn't seem like the tool of choice for a vandal. I'm guessing that was a stuck to a piece of wood you ran over.

It is possible that you picked it up on the road. I once got a sliver of wood in my sidewall.

Yes, you are correct - time for a replacement tire. Sorry, wish that there was a better answer but sidewall damage really can't be safely patched, plugged, or repaired.

I'm curious to know if both ends of that wire are sharp. If not, it would be difficult for a person to drive that into the sidewall of a tire without another tool of some kind.

The wheel lip looks like it has some damage, is that recent?

Good eye, Jager, no it's quite old. I like to curb my wheels right after I buy them, just to take the pressure off :P

Excellent point on the ends being sharp. I'll look at the other end when I extract it. I left it in, hoping it holds air while I'm out of town (didn't notice it until parking my car @ the airport). I'm planning on putting the donut on when I return to limp home...

Now that's funny!!

It's good to see we can have a sense of humor even in adversity.
