Jag F-Type Coupe Priced More than Convertible

Are they crazy? Will this work? Who would go for this? Are there any other cars where the Coupe is more expensive than the Convertible?

Porsche has been very sucessful for several years why not copy them.

In other Jaguar news today Dick Van Dyke's new Jag XJ burst into flames while driving down the freeway. He was unharmed.

These strategies are transparent to anyone with a brain.

Boxster -- Cayman, same car. Porsche cleverly decided to create this forced hiearchy of a roadster being the 'stepping stone' towards a grand touring car with a third car in between. It's an automotive non-sequitor that fooled many, if anything the roadster is the purer sports car of the two. So Porsche adds a hard top to a roadster and rebrands it as a different car, complete with a different model name even. This is all betrayed by both cars having the same model number with no separation of sales figures for each.

If this weren't just clever marketing for the not so clever, the Carrera Cabriolet and regular Carrer would have different names like the 981 and 987 Boxster and Caymans. All part of Porsche's upselling frame work. The problem for Jaguar is that they don't really have a ready made icon to upsell to.

The Jaguar E-Type coupe was always more expensive than the roadster. Maybe Jag is trying to create another legend, starting with its pricing strategy.

Way back in the day I believe C2 Corvette convertibles were cheaper that "Hardtops" from the factory. Air cooled 911 coupes command higher dollars the Cabs and Targas. The market will dictate whether or not Jag's pricing structure will stand.

This is like perfume marketing. Lower the price of an over-priced, heavily marketed fragrance and sales suprisingly go down. The car may be performance at its core but the luxury buyers are simply after perceived exclusivity.

Looks to me like a very poor attempt to imitate the styling of a 911. Owned several of both and the Jag ain.t even close.
