I hope this is a joke, the reasoning is because the amber or colorless is less likely to get confused with other vehicle oils. AND BLUE DOESN'T COMPLY WITH THIS!!!!

Maybe they thought it was too reminiscent of Jimmy Jones and the infamous blue Koolaid! Having said that, I think that those in government who make these ridiculous regulations should be required to taste-test it regardless of the color. Same with anti-freeze. If drinking that doesn't kill you, it is likely to leave you blind and then color won't be such an issue!

FMVSS 116 says brake fluid must be clear or amber in color. The color clause of the has been in effect for at least 2 years and perhaps much longer. Brake fluid manufacturers must have known this.
BTW: The purpose of the color standard is to distinguish brake fluid from any other car fluid because of its safety role. Blue is banned as a brake fluid color because windshield washer fluid is blue. Pretty reasonable when you think about it.

So now Blue is black market product and should cost 10 times as much...perhaps someone would like to buy a half quart of Blue from me for $100 
I guess we will need to use UV dye and a black light when doing brake flushes.

I think brake fluid should be speed yellow - Danger? Thoughts on making that happen?

a) ATE already makes a gold colored equivalent to their blue fluid.
b) 15 years ago the ATE fluid made sense to use, but now there are a handful of better brake fluids available that don't break the bank.

There are better, but they still break the bank..... i.e. Motul RBF600....

a total of $30 more to fill the car? Hardly the breaking of the bank in my opinion. Back 15 years ago the only other great solution was Castrol SRF at $100 a liter. That was what I considered breaking the bank.
