			Hello 
I just joined the forum after lurking for a week . 
Thanks to everybody who posts here for the invaluable resource provided to a new owner   
I initially stumbled across the site after buying a boxster with tiptronic problems last week , and doing Internet research on possible fixes .

Because you're in SoCal, I would call, or better yet go to, LA Porsche Dismantler in Sun Valley.  They have a ton of wreaked Boxsters.  If you walk in you and buy and talk it there you will get a better deal.  Many times you can see what Boxster they take it out of.  It is an amazing place to see.  So many sad crashed Porsches and many of them are Boxsters.  Todd, the owner, is a first class guy.  There will be other opinions as he is a businessman and can't please everyone.  But in my many experiences with him and his business, it is the way to go.

Ed China fixed the tiptronic by changing the gear oil, simple and cheap, fixed the slipping problem.

I attempted to do the oil on Sunday . Couldn't get the sump off to change the filter , so just changed around 4 quarts .
 
I'm not getting any tiptronic codes now , so it must be mechanical .......
 
I have a replacement lined up and I have been talking with a shop about getting it down there .

Only 4 quarts? Withe the filter it usually takes 7+ quarts.
 
I changed the oil & filter today.  You wont get the filter off without a filter wrench.  I bought one 75mm 14 flute wrench from O'Reilly's auto parts part # 19903  $5.99
 
They stock it in store.  
 
Pulled the filter paper apart to inspect for metalic (magnetic) particles with none present except for a few flakes of aluminum.
 
Magnetic particles would be a concern as it is an indication of bearing wear. 
 
I also installed the magnetic oil drain plug.
 
You should come to an autocross at Qualcomm, and meet the gang.

Hmm. Using the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan, you should be able to get about 7 quarts of oil out. There should only be about 1 quart left over in the oil filter housing.

			I am a pca member . 
I've never been to any events though , work gets in the way .
 
The problem with changing the filter was getting the sump off , some of the torques where rounded off . 
Whilst under there I noticed a leak from the front , and the ATF coming out was in a VERY bad way .... 
This transmission is cooked .
 
I have a replacement arranged from a member on here from texas , who via friends of friends is now known to me (small world) and it is being personally delivered to me this weekend .
