There were 5 standard (no addt'l cost) colors in '97, only one of which, Blue Turquoise, is even close to the Ebay car. Additionally, there were 5 optional colors (about $1,000 extra, as I recall), all of them metallics.
Anything else would have been a special order color at about $3k extra. Whoever ordered that car really wanted that color. It appears to be something on the order of "Gulf Blue", the color worn by the Gulf Oil sponsored Porsche 917s from the early '70s. The Porsche 914 of the same period also had a similar color.
Also, about every other MGA produced during the '50s and early '60s wore that color, at the time called "Iris Blue".
Definately not everybody's pick for a color, but there is one running around my area, and I don't think it looks that bad.
