Oh, stop it. The same thing happened when the 987 came out (and the style argument continues to this day), and while I'm guilty of some of the bashing that has occurred with the 981, I don't 100% dislike the car. Just like the 987 did, it will grow on people and they will come to accept it regardless of whatever misgivings they have.
Unlike the way people treat 914/924/928/944 owners for not having a "true Porsche" or whatever that silliness is, how hypocritical would we be to turn away anyone with any Boxster? Our car is just as much of a hated-on vehicle for not being a 911 as the others I mentioned are.
I think this being a community comes first, way before anyone's personal biases toward one car or another.
Oh, and no, 20s won't help you here...I hope you've got a nice pillow for the driver's seat to keep your spine somewhat intact.
Don't go anywhere, eh?

I will think about it. Now if you add a killer wing and coffee can exhaust......
Congrats on the car. What are you doing with the 911 out of curiosity, and what are your reasons for "coming back" to the Boxster?

I need to know the following!
1. Are you getting manual or PDK 981?
2. Did the 911 experience make you miss the Boxster?

Electromechanical steering rack is already in it, I believe. I had that type of steering in my (old) Volkswagen GTI (Mk5) and I loved it. Feedback changed depending on the input. Slow turns, felt easy. Quickly jerked the wheel, it stiffenened and became more sports-like.

But 20" wheels? That seems crazy big to me. Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems to me this trend towards huge wheels runs rampant.

I agree. The huge wheels seem to make a lot of cars look like Hot Wheels toys.
But that's me, and I'm just sayin'.............
Congrats on purchasing one of the finest autmobiles on the planet!

Wow, I'm a little overwhelmed by the response.
Briefly,
1. Yes, pdk -- as was the 911 and I had a tip in the 987 before the 997.2
2. The 911 had much more car then I needed; I don't think I ever launched with the Sport Chrono Plus.; sound is amazing in the 981 even though less horses
3. I liked the style of the 20s. I think stock is now 19" although I haven't driven it more than 6 or so miles so I can't comment on ride quality. Even if it is bumpy-er, I don't think I'll mind.
4. The red is darker -- similar to a previous red the Porsche used to offer; incidently, they have a lime-ish green color that reminded me of djolmas (sp?) who had seafoam

Wait, what, when...did I miss a 981 haters thread. Guess I'll just rub it in, keep hate'n!! Oh btw I still have my 986, even after 1000 miles on the 981 I still love driving the 986 and am finding it hard to give up...but I can tell it will happen soon...maybe. The 986 is like an old pair of shoes that are hard to give up, they just feel so right.
Yesterday and today was the first time I pushed it hard, a very high level Porsche guy told me to ignore the 2000 mile break in period, told me to go enjoy my car. Enjoy I did! Oh I also had the clear bra put on last night and now I love smashing bugs, just one more reason to drive hard.
