After three hours of drilling out the exhaust studs in the cat pipes my new Top Speed Headers are in. They are helping with the low rpm sluggish performance that boxsters have.

Depo Lights! Still need to get the wiring down so that both sets of LED's come on. Love the look though!

Those lights really make the car look great (and newer). Very cool.

This afternoon I'm getting the 986 ready for another weekend at the track!

Took the Wife and I for a 65 mile romp through the countryside this afternoon. Sunny and 44 degrees today. Windy as all get out so no super high speed runs. A couple of good romps though and some nice twisties too. Saw about a dozen guys ice fishing on Lake Lowell.

Ditto on the new tailights!

I drove up to
Petaluma today with my five year old, and as we were loading up the Porsche, he asked if we can take the minivan because its more fun! (Shock). Maybe because it seems so much scarier on curvy roads?

You did what Chris ???? Why ???

I have been thinking of getting a Carerra 4S myself. I have not driven one more than across a parking lot. Would you be so kind as to describe it's driving characteristics and compare it to the Boxster S ??

Hmmm,

I was always lusting for a C4S and I suddenly found myself in a situation where I finally could afford one , so I went for it.
Having two Porsches made no sense for me, so "Violet" is gone now.

Well, the C4S is about 300 lb heavier but has 135 more horses which more than make up for it. The acceleration is insane and the ultra fast shifts from the PDK too. Wait until my first track day (end of March) and I can then tell you more about handling characteristics. The interior of a 2009 is of course much more refined over a 2002 and I can finally have both my kids in the car with me.
And the exhaust sound is intoxicating.
To be continued ....

I replaced my Track Control Arms today, the ends (red arrows) were like marshmallows compared to the new ones. Replacing them eliminated rear clunking sound I had going over bumps at very low speeds.

Had new tires installed (about a week ago). Today was a nice drive with the top down.

Continued to track down my AC leak. Took the engine access covers off and saw the top and front of my engine for the first time in 10 years. All looks good and the drive belt is in great shape.

Unfortunately, no dye was seen on those parts of the compressor that I could see. I did manage to rule out the AC whine as coming from the compressor area. It's definitely from the front passenger foot well area.

Well, I should have quit while I was ahead. About an hour after buttoning up the engine compartment, I decided to pull the evaporator drain hose out of where it sits and the floor pan.

The BAD NEWS: There was dye inside the tube so this confirms that the evaporator is leaking refrigerant.

The GOOD NEWS: A Porsche local shop with replace the just evaporator with an OEM replacement for about $1500 out the door. That's $300 less than what Porsche charges for the heater box part alone which includes evaporator. Porsche tells me they wont sell the evaporator separately.

Actually did the work a week ago but had a Boxster day last Saturday.
-Plastidipped the wheels (liking the black)
-Cleaned and lubricated the brakes (trying to quiet a squeak)
-Verified CV bolts were tight (replaced a shock a few weeks ago and wanted peace of mind)
-Installed a HID kit
-Installed a 997 shifter
-Hardwired up a garage door opener to a new switch.
-Wired up the OBC hack (just need to program now)
