I did not put tape on it... new one coming in tomorrow ($55 from dealership)

It was tough, but hands down the best upgrade I've done so far!
Images snipped! I broke the little vacuum fitting off mine (second one I've broken, btw.) Using a proper bit of brass tubing, I slipped it in, jammed it together and glued it all with Rhino glue and baking soda. Better than new! If I were you, I'd try to mend the old one as practice. Rhino glue is fancy superglue, btw. Used it to glue the window back in on my New Beetle convertible.

I'm not gonna lie, I broke that piece on both ends, and in the middle! you'd think the tubing on it would be more flexible like an accordion, but nope! I used duct tape, super glue and electrical tape to make it look more presentable just temporary til the new part arrives tomorrow

Drained the old gas out of the tank, pulling the frame for the gas sender I broke the plastic connector off where the gas line clips in. Dammed Plastic! That dumb frame is really expensive, to get one new would require a trip to the dealer. So I fixed it. Got some proper sized brass tube, drilled the plastic fitting with a proper sized drill bit, rammed it back together and glued with superglue and baking soda. Probably as strong as new. Used the same technique on the vacuum fitting on the AOS hose. Nice to save expensive plastic!

Today, I'm going to put the tank top back together, I think. Or I may use my shop vac to blow warm dry air in to evap the rest of the gas first. The old gas will get used little by little in my Toyota Highlander, I think. New fuel filter is on the way from ********************************, new pressure regulator, too. So there's no hurry to put it all together. List censors Rock Auto?

Gas will be Chevron, and I'll add some extra Techron to clean the guts of the injector. Even if I get the Boxster running right, won't be able to drive it 'til the smog check station opens back up. MVD (motor vehicle department) is by appt. only, too.

No hurry, I'm enjoying the New Beetle Convert. with Turbo. And there's more to do on the Boxster. I ordered a bunch of RIT dye to renue the carpets. Maybe put it up on quick jack to change out the struts, too.

I knocked off about 3 this afternoon and thought I'd be able to amuse myself for hours. However here I am with phase one complete and less drama than I expected. I only sheared two bolts out of 11. One had been broken before I got the car and may be the source of a small blow at low revs.

So coffee now while I decide if I go home and wallow in my glorious victory or get the drill out and start phase 2.

Wanted to drive the car some on the street so removed -Chamber from setup back to -1 front and Rear and did basic pipe alignment I use at the track if I'm changing anything. which is band a conduit to the rear tires. measure the pipe at the hub on the front wheels, balance with adjustable rear toe-link. measure distance from the face of the tire side to side front and rear of the front tires. then do the same for the face of the tire to the pipe. Verify chamber with a wheel jig and digital inclinometer. No Idea at this point if or when I'll be tracking the car all events are being canceled thru May.

As a side note I have scribe marks on my top plates, Shimmed control arms, and a notebook with measurements to help the process along.

Got it out of winter storage this morning. Put the battery in, connected it, got in the drivers seat, inserted key, held my breath, twisted the key... and it started right up!

Now it's back home in the garage. When I take it out in a little while, I'll reduce the air pressure in the tires. Wish I could put the top down but today's weather is misty, dark, windy but having it home is like a ray of warm sunlight.

I’ve been taking my car apart bit by bit recently. Just waiting on my engine support bar to come in so I can begin replacing the IMS bearing.

While I’m waiting I decided to tackle my leaking washer fluid reservoir issue. I discovered it was the headlight pump. It’s all cracked and rusted real bad. Ok I’ll just order a replacement and call it good. I hop on my computer and find the headlight pump costs 5x more than the windshield pump. Damn. Gonna have to bite this bullet. My OCD needs my low reservoir fluid dash light off.

Had a busy weekend in quarantine...

Ever have foam bits blow out of your vents? Heat not working like it used to? I think a lot of 986 owners will like this one 😁

As always, great video. As far as I could find, the 1st one clearly showing this repair. Thanks for posting.

I was considering the repair where you access the rear flap from the heater core access (under the wipers) and by cutting off the "top cap" to pull the flap right out.

This video does look like a much easier solution.

Great vid! I've seen a write-up about it but I've been putting off doing it because seemed too complicated. I also love the technique to apply the tape. I'll definitely try it in the near future.

Thanks for taking the time to create the video for all of us!

Very good video!! I've done this on a couple of 986's and my 996. I used duct tape but your tape looks like a much better choice.

Thanks! Yeah someone in the forum I found the instructions on suggested it. It’s great.

Fired her up for the first time this season and took her for a spirited run to clean out the cobwebs.

She ran like a champ- tires weren't as flat-spotted as I thought they'd be.

Re-attached/hooked that stupid plastic hook that holds the roof liner in place on the lifting arm.

Put her back in the garage as still too early here with all the sand and salt still on the roads.

Now getting ready to order my xenon kit for the headlight re-virginization project. (have burnt halogens)

Was thinking of getting the low beam Xenons like how the litronics are, retaining the high beam halogen to save extra wiring headaches.

Thoughts on that gents?
