Borrowed a Hazet 17mm Hex tool to open the trans. No room to move it. This tool is for the old VW's.

Luckily, my neighbor loaned me this adapter which worked a treat.

Do not have a fluid transfer pump, but the gravity fill adapter I used on my Golf DSG fit the fill hole.

Look how high off the ground

Jack stands don’t compare to these quick jacks. So easy to get them up in the air. I might change the oil while they are up there.

Engine Mount replacement

Working on the engine mount on my 98 Base. Pretty straight forward so far.

Lots of good tips on this forum. Specifically the tip for lowering the engine to slide out the bottom two bolts helped. I never had to take off the coolant hoses.

One tip I didn't see was to open up the engine cover behind the seats to access and loosen the top two bolts. This made them super easy to get at. Saved lots of time. *edit: saw this tip and the one above on the pelican comments section after I did the work! Guess I could have done even more research!

Bushing was cracked, but still intact. Car has 170k kms. 100k kms on a replacement engine. I believe this is the original bushing.

I am replacing with the lemfoerder unit (pretty sure it's almost OEM). I want to maintain stock feel.

Getting the new mount pressed in at a local shop. Then I'll reinstall tomorrow. Hoping to feel the difference everyone talks about.

*update: the vibration experienced at ~3k RPM is gone. And when I head over speedbumps the shifter movement is subdued. Total time in is about 1.5 hours (excluding getting the bushing pressed out). Worth the effort for the results.

Put in new ignition switch and fixed a broken wire under the air bag that made the horn and Tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel stop working.

Finally repainted the flaking calipers with the Duplicolor brush on kit. Looks OK from a couple feet away, but its not great up close. I'll still want to do a complete powder coat and refresh someday.

Re-instated insurance, and took it out of the garage for the first time since November.

Finally got the car out of hibernation yesterday. Slight puff of blue on start up and some clatter that quickly disappeared. She idled beautifully after that. Temps hit about 17C (63F) so I took her for a 2 hour drive and everything is running like it is new. Today it is going to 19C (66F) so I'll be out again enjoying the sunny spring weather.

Got my new Hankook RS4's mounted up, getting closer to being ready for track season! Those are a set of 996 Turbo Twists that I found on Craigslist for $300.

Replaced the factory head unit with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X898. Finally have decent tunes, (and still the exhaust notes...)
