Trans Axle Oil

I changed my trans-axle oil today. I now have an opinion on two products. Which do you prefer, brand "A" or brand "B" ?

Also where did you get the brand A from? The Porsche dealer here doesn't even carry it. He told me to use Mobil 1. I didn't like that response.

If the Porsche brand is not synthetic I'll go with the Royal Purple..

The Porsche gear oil is full synthetic and out performs all other lubricants - including a non Porsche approved oil like Royal Purple.....
The OPC filled my gearbox with Mobil 75W90 when I bought the car @ 60,000 km - I was never really happy with the cold gearchanges, so at 70,000 km I replaced the lube with the genuine Porsche oil - a real improvement in shift feel and quality.
Its not cheap, but it lasts for 90,000 km, so it has to be good !!
No alternative oils for me....

Hands-down the Porsche oil is much better, especially when the system is cold. With Royal Purple going into second was always stiff before the motor warmed-up. With the Porsche oil shifting is smoother in all gears and the down-shifts are better, plus it doesn't have the pungent odor that other gear lubes have!

I used swepco 210 and had the same result as Jager. Works fine for me when hot, but cold mornings are not so smooth, definitely worse than the OEM fluid.

Redline 75W90 @ 90K Feels Good but no cold weather here in NC. Not sure about up north.

I did the Porsche Gear oil in my 2000 Boxster @ 93K miles. I went back and forth on what to use. Bottom line: A decent synthetic gear oil was pushing $20/liter while the Porsche stuff was $28/liter plus ($10 shipping for 3 liters). Given I'll most likely never have to do this job again, I figured the OEM stuff was the way to go, given the delta in price of $34.

Exactly - most people will sell the car long before the Porsche oil goes out of spec.
Ummm, what am I saying - maybe a cheaper lube will suffice for most (?) people anyway,,,,,,
Its just that as you get older, quality really counts !!

I'm heading that way myself. I used RedLine 75W90 when I changed both the Boxsters trans lube last time. Good stuff, but they are a little stiff when cold. Going OEM Porsche trans lube next time.

My dealer wants $67 a bottle for "their" product. I have a hard time believing that there is not an identical product under a different name. Porsche is not in petroleum business. Maybe they had a custom formulation put together, but I have my doubts...

I don't care what's in it, with tax just the fluid came to ~215$ and change, that is offensive.

Brand A…Amsoil!

Running it with great results in engine and tranny. I got it for the price of regular Valvoline at Autozone! If you become a dealer they will give you even better prices. I got 3 quarts of Amsoil Synthetic 75w-90 transmission fluid shipped to the house for only $45.

Based on wear tests this is a superior product. Check it for your self! Hopefully, I can own the car long enough to change the tranny fluid again!

Try Suncoast Porsche in Sarasota, FL (google Suncoast). I've had great luck with them and purchased the gear oil for $28/L. Figure about $10 for shipping.
