Porsche Boxster S 2005 good deal or not?
Dear all,
I got informed by a relative that a Porsche Boxster S 2005 with 40k miles with broken engine was available for 16k but is now 13k.
It's in pristine condition dark metalic blue, sand color leather, chrono package, 18" wheels...
I'm considering doing a Subaru engine swap ( i have Subaru engine and gearbox sitting in my garage) and I would like to know from you If the Porsche gearbox and the damaged engine could be worth something if I want to get rid of them.
Please let mek now if this is a good deal.
Thanks
Greg

Regardless of what you plan to do with the car, "rollers" (cars with dead engines) sell for near scrap metal prices, which is not $13,000.............

The 2005 S without an engine is worth around $6-$8K.
Replacing the engine might only be Step 1 of Many. The risk of buying a car without a working engine is that you have no way to verify if the other systems in the car are in good working condition (suspension, transmission, drivetrain, all electrical components, cooling, etc...).
Hence, you have to assume that there are other systems which will require work (and substantial $$$) once you replace the engine.

I thought 6-8k will be the price for a 2000-2004 but certainly not for a 2005. I've been looking a lot and 13k is the cheapest I found Have you seen one for sale that cheap or are you just making up prices?
Any other feed back will be apreciated.
Thanks

A car that doesn't run is not in pristine condition. Another member has done a Subie swap, it would be a good thread to read. If you decide to re-power it with a Porsche motor it's going to be 6-8k for the engine alone, that would not include any IMS upgrades.

The only thing that would make an '05 with a dead engine worth $13K would be that it had at least $7K in cash in the trunk. The car is not worth the asking orice.........

Tough question actually. What do you think it will cost you to put your engine/tranny into the Boxster? What would you value the car to be worth afterwards?
If the tranny in the 05 is good it is worth ~$2K. I don't know how you'd be able to determine the tranny condition of the car since it isn't running. Of course, it is most likely just fine.
I do agree that $13K may be too much if you were to replace the engine with another Porsche (used) engine. You would likely end up with over $20K in the car, where as I've seen 05 S Boxsters selling for $24-26K.
Best of luck with your project (if you take it on)!

You might get $13K for it if you parted it out and sold it piece by piece on Ebay at rock bottom, buy it now, prices. That should only take you about a year.
Otherwise that's no car a non-mechanic should consider buying. could be a huge money pit.
