AutoZone has the buy 5 quarts and get a free filter every once in a while. Got 10 quarts and 2 filters for $60 last month. No Boxster filters but got some for my new truck.

All Full Sythetic oils are on sale right now at Auto Zone for $2 off. Sales lasts till April 4th. If you show the ad to other stores. they most likely will price-match.

Unless I'm missing something, that AutoZone ad is just for motorcycle oil...

Correct. My bad. I use the Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin in my 993 Turbo. An excellent oil for the aircooled Porsches.

I've never seen this oil on sale, and when I bought some last week, I did not realize the sale was only for motorcycle oils.

Call ahead to Oreilly store and they will order you the filter. They usually have it in about a day or two. Then you can stop in and pick it up witht he oil.

I dropped into my local Porsche indy shop yesterday to ask them about doing a CEL inspection and possible repair. While I was there, I happened to notice the parts display they had set up. In the display they had bottles of M-1 and Lubro Molly. I asked them of M-1, Lubro Molly and Castrol Syntec which was best. Well you should have heard them break out laughing. When they calmed down, they said they would not put Castrol Syntec in their lawn mowers. To them it is bad stuff. They said if you want to blow up your engine use it.

Hans has been a Porsche mechanic for 50 years and the other guy (I dont remember his name) has been a mechanic for over 20 years. So I asked them to give their "opinions" of M-1 and Lubro Molly. They said none of todays oils are as good as they used to be. They finally told me they preferred the Lubro Molly.

I don't know that I would be using those particular folks myself. Personally, I prefer to listen to a respected indy that works on facts, like UOAs.

I would have pointed out that regardless of motor oil choice these motors will blow up anyways...

I find it interesting that Castrol Syntec has a TV commercial claiming 8 times better wear protection than Mobil 1 & apparently Mobil 1 can't deny this since the commercial has been airing for over a year. :chicken:

Thanks for the heads up. It's almost time to take my other two fair weather babies out of hibernation and get them ready for spring.

Sleeping peacefully since last November.

Lots of fun, but I'll have to admit after I got the Boxster
last July, my saddle time went down drastically.

I know what you mean Gforrest2. Since we bought our Boxsters my motorcyles have been languishing in the garage. I have 2 Triumphs and a Kawasaki. The 3 of them did not get enough miles last year to get the oil dirty. That is sad because I've been riding for 40 years. My wife and I call the Boxsters our "4 wheeled motorcycles".
